When I did mine I used my existing pivot arms, kept them in place and just unscrewed the 8 Phillips screws from both the new cover and the old cover and swapped them out. So I just replaced the top basically. Simple. Looking for pics...here this shows it very well:

First post, second picture, the piece on the left does not get removed, that is the original piece that you use, the piece on the right is the top part that comes off with the 8 screws and voila, swap! The post is a custom like mine but the simple, much easier install will still apply.

Nice man, I was looking at that also and was wondering if I could just do that and replace the top only.. thank you very much I'm gonna go try it now.. pics up soon..life saver bro. I didn't really want to take everything apart.

Yeah I replaced that nasty nerf arm rest with one of those.

I just removed the screws separating the top and bottom piece on both contraptions.

I got the genuine GM one and it won't click shut as smoothly as the stock. There must be something with the thickness of the leather that causes that. Hmmm, maybe the leather one has a bottom piece that is sunk 1/16 inch lower to account for that. Hmmm maybe you should take the console apart. :-(
