CAI, scoop, lt's = worse mpg
okay so i know we didnt buy these cars for fuel efficency but...
my 2010 SS m6 has always gotten an average mpg of about 19 mpg, which i think is a little worse than some others are getting. I DD my car about 60 miles each day, most of that is hiway crusing in 6th gear at 70-75 mph (1800 rpm) I tried setting cruise control and playing with different mph but the best i could really get is 21 mpg freeway. I put on kooks lt's kooks hfc's, C.A.I. intake and scoop, no tune yet just the defouler trick to clear the CEL, after these mods most people said the mpg should go up slightly because it would be running slightly leaner, however mine has gone down from 19.5 to 17.1 avg. at first i thought it was maybe that with the the mods i was driving a bit harder but i have reset the mpg counter and really tried to drive the same way as before the mods and i can not get it above 17.5, is this normal or could i have an issue somewhere

Driving 70-75 MPH on the highway will not give you good gas mileage. Everytime you double your speed you quadruple wind resistance. I know it sucks but driving 60-65 makes a huge differance in mpg. Anything that adds performance really has no ground to stand on with MPG claims.
Also, long tube headers will make your car run richer not leaner until you get a tune. That would be were your gas mileage went right there. |

Mine is a little more thirsty since the LT's, CAI and race scoop and I have a tune also. I credit it to the fact that I play with her alot just to hear those LT's talk to me!!

that's what i figured was happening to me, then i started trying to drive as before, or nicer just to see what would happen and the mpg is definitely worse than before

I believe mine would be too, even if I were a little lighter with the foot. I would not trade my long tubes for slightly better gas mileage though.
Best Mod so far.

It is the tune... the tune will improve efficiency, your air/fuel ratios are set for stock bolt ons right now and you have modified that.
I gained 2.5 mpg city after my tune... and then I lost 1.5 of it with the Cam lol. I have a heavy foot and also was around 17 mpg (but that is with NO highway driving.)

I don't LT's yet, just CAI and the scoop. My MPG's went up 2 after I installed them.
My driving is mostly city driving where the speed limit is 35-45 and I can't really get on it in the city either :( |
