DIY-Center Console Carbon Fiber Arm Rest Install
Ok, so I finally got time to do the swap out of the carbon fiber arm rest lid I won from Thecarbonfiberspecialists
It only took about 30 minutes, a phillips & 2 slotted screw drivers. Pretty simple, but I searched for a how to before I embarked on this one. Having not found one I dove in and crossed my fingers. It seems like every time I do a mod to my car I leave it a little less than perfect once finished. This one turned out pretty good in that respect. Start by running the passenger seat all the way back and lay the back down as far as it will go. You will do this on both sides. Starting at the front under the dash insert your fingers under the bottom edge and gently pull out unsnapping the bottom clip, then unsnap the top ones. Slowly work your way down to the rear of the center console. Slide the piece forward to remove and place under the car or in a place you WILL NOT step on it.

Move both the seats forward and lean the back forward for more room. You can sit in the back seat to do this part.
Then remove the two phillips head screws on either side of the back piece of the center console. Pull the sides out and over the alignment nub and lift it up and out. Open the console lid. Then use the slotted screw drivers carefully to pry the side of the slot open and pop out each side of the mounting arms. Rotate the lid past the fully open position and lift out to remove.

Install the new lid in the reverse fashion and snap arms into place. Rotate the lid to the closed and locked position. Slide the back console piece down in place. Pull sides out and over alignment nubs and install the two phillip screws on either side. Move seats back as far as they go with the back reclined. Put the side console pieces back in place by putting them up towards the front and sliding down towards the back. Carefully start from the back and snap the top clips in place and then the bottom ones. You will feel the bulge of the bottom ones.

Mucho thanks to d69chris!! Viewed his post and than did the swap to a red thread console cover in around ten minutes. Only fiddly bit was releasing the cover hinge pins. Took a fair amount of force & I did not want to bust anything.

Isn't it easier to just unscrew the top piece and swap tops - leave the bottom piece with hinge in place?

Answered my own question. Just swapped plain lid with lid with zl1 logo and Yes you can just swap out tops. 8 screws and separate leather top from plastic base (part with hinge and latch) on new and old parts - then swap. When you reinstall just make sure latch is sitting properly on guide posts. 5 minutes.
