Coolant Temp??
I have been reading a few threads regarding the specifics of coolant temp. I drove to work today and the car sat for 5 hours but it had been driven earlier throughout the day for errands and such. The car I drive is a 2012 Camaro 2LS I did my normal startup as usual let it idle for a minute or so and drove it easy for maybe 6-8 minutes. Coolant temp was around 176 degrees and a large dump truck got right in front of me and started to release a hail of rocks as we all know are the enemy of a clean chip free windshield. I was in manual mode and mashed the gas and it revved to around 6k rpm before I shifted. This all leads to my question was it okay for the engine to be floored like that with the coolant at 176 degrees? I tracked the digital readout and also the needle was almost if not exactly where it normally sits. I'm kind of freaking out over this because I'm not trying to cause any unnecessary wear and tear on this car I just bought. Thanks for any comments!

Should be fine. More important is engine oil temp rather than coolant temp.

Normal operating temp is 201 for me.

Engine oil temp is more important and it was nearly there I wouldn't have floored it had I known I still needed to warm up more. Its so hard to judge by that needle because of the way it sits. But I was certain I just wanted to be sure that I haven't really harmed anything to bad. If anything it was 90% warm/ready worst case scenario. |
