LS7 concept camaro. Hint;= due it your self Z28
Sounds like GM is not planning on building a Z28 in near future for a number of reasons/budget. However GM performance parts is advertising the Ls7 crate engine in the LS7 camaro concept. looks like this is GM's Hint for a "do it your self Z28"
Also the LS9 crate engine will be offered fall 09, possible SEMA LS9 camaro concept/ none official ZL1? |

Z28 Camaro needs to shed a couple pounds. Not just more hp & tq. Z28 should be track ready.

with $13k for the engine alone, if they start making carbon fiber panels, aluminum sub-frames, & such just to shed pounds, you're speeding into corvette territory. i doubt the general would do anything like that. especially in the financial pinch they're in.

I also doubt that I won't be tempted to put an ls9 in my car

I think a Z28 would be better off as a near track ready car. Way lighter, track ready suspension (pedders), basic interior no frills, No back seat, Recaros with 5 pt.?, engine wise. I don't know if I would go bigger, although the LS7 would be great. Maybe a smaller engine that could rev really high. Cost would be the issue for engine decision. LS9 would be way too expensive the car would cost to much. LSA probably the same.

The LS7 camaro would be a modern day ZL1 (aluminum 427) more than a Z28(base V8 engine with handling package), though the LS7 motor is based on the C6Rs 427 V8 so it's a light weight track engine.

Bah! I don't think an LS9 camaro is going to be too expensive. Yes, maybe for regular folk, but for what you are getting, an LS9 camaro would technically come out around the same price as the new CTS-V. And no matter how much you want to disagree, the CTSV has an amazing price tag on it.

It does. But its about can you sell it at that price. Enough to turn a profit. The LS9 engine alone is rumored to cost around 20k. Thats retail, I don't know cost but its probably pretty high to produce. I don't think you could sell enough to make money on. I think a cheaper, lighter, semi-track ready car, might be an easier sell than a bigger, heavier, more powerful touring car.

I understand what your saying, but at 600 HP, the car would definitely have to be a limited edition ZL1, I'm talkin past Z28 status. Give me a limited production run, call jinx for the final designs, and give me another ZL1 run. But for me, this can happen a little farther down the road maybe 2012 or 13, I need to get my first manual and learn how to drive before i get a monster.

That would make a great ZL1. Agreed.
