I have a factory backup camera that used to be connected to an aftermarket Pioneer headunit. Now I'm connecting it to MyLink that I got from GEN5DIY.

For power to the backup camera, can I use the same T-Tap to the white wire of the head unit's main power harness? Or should I tap from a different wire?

No, you can't use the white wire. Unfortunately not sure which one to use instead.

Thanks. Do you know the purpose of the white wire?

Ok, so all the wires are in and I fired it up and nothing happens. For the connection to the radio hvac A20 connector, I didn't have 2 black wires, I only had a red, a bare wire, and a taped wire. I assumed the bare wire acted as the factory black wire in the instructions. Is this correct?

I'm not sure what other issue it could be. Everything else plugged right in.

Oh- but I can turn my hazard flashers on and off.

I see from this wiring thread:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24704

That the white wire on pin 43 is the amp turn-on wire. So, I guess Gen5DIY is using this same wire to send power to the faceplate

All that being the case, I don't see why I couldn't use the same white wire as a power source to the backup camera.

Ofer?

EDIT: After measuring 12v on the wire when the key is turned on, I just tried it. The white wire works perfectly for powering the reverse camera.

Any ideas why I'm not getting power to the faceplate? Is the T-tapped wire providing the power?

I had a black wire as black and bare wire as bare wire. You sure its a bare wire taped black?

Im pretty sure that the white wire may be a data turn on not 12v.

How many wires on your camera? If you need switched power, just tap into the accessory plug wires in the console.

Into my A20 connector I had a bare, and taped and a red. No factory black. I assumed the taped wire was the one referenced as a wrapped black wire in the video into plug 7 (mine is black wire and wrapped) and I put the bare wire into 6 since I didn't have a factory black. Still not getting the faceplate to power on.
