I did my first change at 1k, but i broke it in hard as i have done with all past LS based engines. From then I change mine when it needs it, the color, smell, and feel of the oil will tell you more then the OLM! Depending on time of year (warmer weather), different driving habits at different times of year, frequent track visits or lack of, all greatly effect the mileage change greatly! To put a set (mileage) on a change will either have you changing it late or to soon. The book is a good reference but READ your oil, not the book!

I like to do the first change at roughly 700 miles. Personally I wouldn't go over 1100 miles for the first change in any event.

Of course I'll have to make sure to inspect the car before I move it off the lot . My car has 875 miles and has been sitting in the garage since beginning of November. I will be changing the oil and possibly rear diff fluid around 1k.

I'm sure it will. people put tons of miles on car today. longevity is one of the most important factors when people decide on a car. and in the car business, loyalty is the mothers milk of the business. especially the Asian makers. there's no way they would risk that to post a little lower cost of ownership. besides, the imports aren't selling on price. everybody knows your pay more if you buy Hondatoyotanissan. but they do it because those cars have built a reputation of lasting forever and being of higher quality. and the domestics are tying (with a lot of success i might add) to catch them. I really doubt they'd risk what's taken them 30 yrs to accomplish by using a maintenance schedule that would damage your motor and prevent it from going much beyond the warranty. |

Nothing will ever replace having the knowledge, motivation, and common sense to maintain your own vehicle. The best policy is to be actively involved in everything involving your car.

Example, GM produces some pretty good engines on the assembly line. But, the real high quality engines they produce are HAND BUILT. Computers are smart, some are reliable, but they can never take the place of the experience and finesse professional engine builders have. |

I split the difference and did mine at 1yr / 2,000 miles. Put on 2k a year average, so change once each year after that. First change showed metal shavings in the oil, the next year's not so much. Just bought the Mobil1 for this year's change in a couple of months.

GM spent $$$$$$$ on the OLM system, then backs it up with s 100,000 mile warrantee .I'd trust the well paid GM engineers & the manuel. FYI, sometimes a manufacturer will use additives and special lubricants for the engine to fully brake in.Why throw them away? Also a well broken in engine runs smoother, cooler, longer, and makes more HP.
