Are most like that, or are most like the standard 3-series and S2000 ones where you still have to plug in a key or keyfob and then press a start button? I know BMW has the "comfort access" option which you can add to the car which will let you keep the keyfob in your pockets and start the car with a dash start button.

The pushbutton is a fun gimmick. Personally not for me. They could offer an option, but I think the only drawback to the transmitting fob is the replacement cost. While a key could cost 100 dollars to replace, I have read that certain manufacturers charge 1000 dollars to replace the fob. Someone prove me wrong but that would be fatal for people like me that lose everything at least once.

To be honest, I don't know. I was referring to the type like BMW's comfort access system. If it was like the first option I see the point of it adding an extra step.

My fiance's Infiniti M35 has a push-button ignition.

There is a placeholder for the key fob but it's not necessary for the car to start. You must place your foot on the brake and push the button. It's a neat little "toy" but it wouldn't make or break a deal for me.

If you're not close enough to the car, you can't unlock it...sometimes you could be standing AT the car and it won't unlock because the battery is weakened. It's more of a hassle...but a cool feature when it's working.

Once I got a phonecall from a guy that bought a Corvette from me that had the RFID keyfob and pushbutton start. He was very worried that he couldn't lock the car when he got it home.

I told him to walk away from it and it locked itself. He had the keyfob in his pocket and it kept unlocking the door because he was so close to it.

Don't quote me on this one...but if my memory serves me right...there is a system that does part of this. I forget which manufacturer it is...but there is a keyless entry system where if you have your key fob in your pocket and you walk within a certain radius (I don't know distances or anything like that) of you car the doors will unlock. I don't like that at all...in fact, I personally think that that is a safety risk...if anyone has any info or knows what I'm talking about...feel free to comment!

Edit: Whoops!! Sterling! You just said something about what I'm talking about!!

I can see arguements on both sides, so it really doesn't matter to me but the book is closed on this topic...... it has been confirmed the car will use a key and that key will be Audi-esque (it can retract like a switchblade knife into the remote fob). All remote functions (door locks/alarm, trunk release, panic button, remote start) are integrated into the keyfob. There's a picture of it somewhere.
