camaro ss vs cobalt ss
Ive talked to some people about this and ive heard different things. So I bring my question here. If i have a stock camaro ss and put it against the new cobalt ss, off the line who would win in a 1/4 mile?
P.S. I was also looking at some statistics in the car and driver magazine and on a racetrack the cobalt ss showed better performance against both the new STI and EVO |

Results PDF This was a comparison done with Road and Track: Cobalt SS v. Mazdaspeed3 v. Lancer Ralliart v Impreza WRX. First of all; the Chevy anihalated the competiton. But onto your question...no. The Cobalt cannot hope to keep up with the Camaro SS. ---The Cobalt gets a 13.9 Quarter-mile time. Slightly quicker than what the Camaro V6 is expected to get. The Camaro SS is expected to get ~12.9-13.1 (slow guesses). ---The Cobalt returns a 5.4 sec 0-60 in this test. Again, slightly faster than the Camaro V6. The Camaro SS will be in the 4.5 second range. Not even close. |

Not at 800lbs less and for the same price.
And it can't 'house' it...it's just faster by a few tenths . With the Camaro, you get RWD, IRS, 6-speeds, and a up-market interior...Cobalt fails in all those categories miserably, specifically the last one. Compromises, compromises... |

That's why it deserves the SS badge. It performs above expectations. It belongs on top of the mountain.
The Camaro LS will be able to outperform the Cobalt SS with modification and tuning. There's nothing sad about any SS beating anything else.

Yeah - and that cobalt would have walked the WRX on that autocross course if it had the LSD. And even more so if it were the coupe instead of the sedan.
- Xanthos If for some reason I can't get a Camaro, a used SS/SC is very high on my list. In fact, even a 2.4 SS/Sport or even one of the newer XFE (Even the XFE hits 60 in 7.5 seconds) would rank high on my list.

the cobalt SS is no joke. of all the small motor cars out there, the cobalt whups on everyone. and can be made to some serious competition for the v-6 camaro and for the difference in price....for the SS as well

The Cobalt is a great machine. I wouldn't expect it to compete with the Camaro.
