So Hawthorne Chevy is trying to screw me!

So I'm close to picking up my car and I ask for the final numbers...

The Dealer kindly decides to add a Mark Up to my Camaro...

Soooo now I'm waiting for the salesman to go back to the GM.
There was some excuse that GMAC screwed them over and they are making no money on the car.

Did you have MSRP in writing before? I had my dealer print out a deal for MSRP with exact tax & fees, plus an extra hand-written "we promise not to mark up your car" at the bottom. I know I risked offending them asking for extra guarantees, but I'll make up for it by flattering the hell out of them once I get the car at a fair price.

In that case, don't budge. You have a written agreement with them. Keep going up the chain of command until it's honored.

They should not of accepted an order till the MSRP date in the first place.

Walk away and take your biz to another dealer. It's legal what they are doing but it's slime.

Financing through GMAC has absolutely NOTHING to do with the price of the car.

They are lying to your face. Just so you know.

Yes, I just did the same with the new dealer. He emailed the order summary and replied to my detailed email confirming our agreement. Same as a contract.

Don't let them do it to you! There are cars starting to show up on lots now.

I have a signed e-mail stating "We are selling you the car at MSRP, Plus $129 service and handling fee only". It's just an e-mail, but my wife also buys all of her company vehicles though this dealer, so I feel pretty safe. She would not hesitate to go someplace else next year.

If they don't honor the agreement, threaten legal action, and walk out the door.

A lawyer will write a letter for you for surprisingly little $$$. Sometimes that's all it takes.

BTW: just threaten lawsuit. Tell him you will get a lawyer, and they will end up losing money due to lawyer fees, and the pay out you will end up winning. Ask them if it is worth it?

Camaro pre-orders started months before MSRP was announced. Lots of folks here ordered one without knowing what it would cost.
