Love My Car But it Weighs to Much. Tell me how to deal with this??
I am thinking about getting a mustang just so I can shave 600 pounds off of what I am driving, get better gas milage, and slip the rear out on some more occasions, save on tires and who knows what else. When compared to a mustang or corvette driving the camaro is like having a jetski on a trailer hooked to your car every time you take off. That is what one of those things weigh.. The jetski weighs about 500 pounds right? I love the car. It is a marvel of human achievement but that Ass..
Make me feel better. Why should I not care about this fattie and love her even though she is a big girl? |

I've been in a few new mustangs and I hate the ride. I've smoked a few of those mustangs too in my camaro. I believe I probably get better gas mileage also than most of them too. Love this car . If you nick named it "Betty Backfat" I would still love her unconditionally.

Comparible Mustang is around 250 - 300lbs less...definitely not 600.
I see your in a 2010, which was more of a sloppy handler than the new models. You need to work on something to make her feel lighter on her feat. Swap out stock springs and sway bars with something a tad lower and more sporty so the car handles better, and takes off more planted. Then get yourself a couple performance mods to improve throttle response. Maybe an intake, ported throttle body and a tune. That should help a lot.

Mustang is only 250-300 lighter.
Grab some bushings (subframe, diff, and a few others), trailing arms and tie rods, and sawy bars. Then give your motor some love with a full exhaust (headers to tips) which will net you a nice gain and also drop 60-80lbs out of the car. Then tune it and grab an intake of course. If you want to keep dropping weight and get down to where the stangs hang it actually isn't too hard Exhaust: 60-80lbs Wheels: 40 or so pounds Rotors: 20 lbs (For these and wheels times it by 4 since it's rotating unsprung mass) At this point you will be light enough and quite a bit faster than any stock 5.0 and will be able to hang with the bolt on ones but will also have the better riding, handeling, and looking car.

Sorry you're not happy with your SS, maybe you should trade it in on a 'stang....

Rather insightful first post.
Maybe you should buy a 600# lighter Mustang, would that be a Mustang II? |

I think its extremely well planted for how heavy it is. Anybody ever have a 3rd or 4th gen? Those cars make you really appreciate how well the 5th rides. The other guy is right though. Add HP. Don't give up your airbags and a/c and backseat and switch everything to carbon fiber. Spend that money on a blower or something if you are unhappy with the vehicle.

I test drove a 2014 Mustang GT. Wasn't impressed. Only thing I did like was the ride was softer and not as bumpy. There's lots you can do to shave weight but unless you plan to race it, why? Add a CAI, tune and PTB, problem solved.
