Oshawa Plant to Lose 1000 Jobs

http://www.thestar.com/business/2015...this-year.html

GM Canada announced today that 1000 jobs will be lost at the Oshawa flex line plant when the current generation Camaro ceases production there on Nov.20. (later than expected?)

Workers interviewed on the local news this evening were not very happy, as there is no forthcoming announcement of a vehicle to take the Camaro's place at the plant - and if there is to be an announcement, it won't happen until after the new contract is negotiated with the CAW later in 2016.

Many of us have developed relationships with plant employees through BBOMG events. It just seems so very sad that the fine people in Oshawa responsible for putting the 5th Gen car together and helping to make it the success that it's been, have to deal with this.

Best regards,

Elie

Welcome to America. It's an American brand, should be built by Americans.

The point of my starting this thread was simply to inform members here of what transpired today as a result GM Canada's announcement and the potential impact that it may have on many of those folks who have been building these wonderful cars. Having met a few of the people who work in the plant and build these cars with such pride, I can't help but feel some empathy.

Secondary to that is the announcement that the plant will continue building Camaros until Nov. 20, which I was a bit surprised to hear.

My intent was certainly NOT to initiate a debate about where the Camaro should be built!! There'd been way-y-y too much back and forth about that over the years, IMHO!

So I humbly apologize if I have given some people the wrong impression by my passing along this news. If that's what you came away with, I'd ask that you take a second and re-read my initial post.

Best regards,

Elie

Gm has been in Canada for almost 100 years...the days of American ..or Canadian brand are long gone.

So sorry for those who will be caught up in these lay offs. Please know how much we appreciate your work and craftsmanship in building these fine cars. I love my 5th Gen Camaro and the quality of this car is second to none. Hope something comes through soon for the line and you are all back doing what you do best, building kick ass cars.

To the team in Oshawa, we are sorry to hear this. We will always appreciate your dedication and hard work that went into making our beloved Camaros. As one of the loyal 5th Gen buyers who went on the BBOMG plant tour a few years ago, we will always remember the way you welcomed us.....Thank you and be well.
Good to see someone post that knows what they are talking about.....way to show respect...

Forgive me for not being specific enough. Welcome to the "United States."

If it puts United States citizens back to work, or at least the place of assembly back in the states, I don't care what's opens in another country. If it makes me an @$$hole, so be it!

And yet, foreign brands are more American than a Camaro. Say, the Tundra built here in Texas.

I know one of the guys here works there, I hope he isn't caught up in the lay offs.
