Recommended oil for ZL1
I'm getting ready to do a decent build on my ZL1 (pulleys, injectors, HX, cam, etc) and my installer is going to change the oil for me. What do you guys recommend putting in? Should I put in what the manual says or should I go with something different?

I have used Mobil 1 from the start as well as many others here. And remember it is 8 qts. Costco has sales on Mobil 1 $27.99 for 6 regular $37.99. I think you will get a lot of opinions as far as brand. I think more important to meet the manufacturer specs.

Another oil thread.
Personally I run Joe Gibbs DT40, but I have a built engine, the tolerances are different from a stock engine. In the past I have run Royal Purple, won't be running that anymore (not the best for turbos) Mobil One, and Valvoline VR1 synthetic racing oil. I would recomend either Joe gibbs LS30 if your engine is stock, Amsoil, and Valvoline VR1.

10w30 Amsoil Signature series works well and my car liked it. Joe Gibbs LS30 does a great job of running clean, cleanest oil I ever ran. I am not a fan of the shelf oils not even Mobil 1. Also you'd be surprised to see how many oils even at thicker weights Joe Gibbs LS30 out performs.

The changes you are making are not changing the physical engine hardware. I would run Mobil1. Even GM's new Hi-Po cars call for it.
Great oil and what the motor was designed to use.

I have injectors, lower pulley, headers and a couple other little things. I have been running Joe Gibbs LS30. Seems like good stuff.

I run Amsoil 5w-30 Signature Series. I've been using Amsoil in all our vehicles for 30+ years. One a FZJ80 Land Cruiser has 380,000+ miles on it.

Seems like most of you are running Amsoil and Joe Gibbs. I may have to try one of those instead of Mobil 1

I'm currently using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum but I've had the free dealer service oil changes up until recently which is with Mobil 1.

Driven racing oil LS30 Joe Gibbs
Designed for high performance LS series engines. Utilizes advanced synthetic base oils to provide high temperature and high shear protection. Ideal for LS based "crate" engines and supercharged LS performance engines. Oil made for the LS motors. This is what my engine builder uses and recommends.
