I lived in NE San Antonio from 1990 to 1995 while still in teh Air Force, and I loved it. I hope to move back down there in the next year or two.

Ugh, I think the worst part of job hunting is the point right before getting your job salary/start date, and putting your 2 weeks in.

Ive felt like I've had a rock in my stomach for the last two weeks waiting for my background investigation to come through... and playing it cool at my current location.

Thank you for all of the responses, I really look forward to hangin out at Houlihans when I finally do get out there.
The federal gov't can reimburse you for having to break the lease. Just make a phone call and ask because they'll process Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders which will show what you will be reimbursed for such as mileage and even closing costs on a new home. It's up to the agency but if you look at the job announcement it will tell you if they will pay for you to PCS. Just tell them it's going to be a hardship on you and your family. I would get a house anywhere north of your job site because traffic going East get's pretty bad unless you get off no later that 4.

Unfortunately it's a Civilian Government position, so as a first time employee, they do not reimburse lease breakings. They will cover them, if I ever get PCS'd again however. It kind of bothered me a bit that prior military service wasn't counted as prior government employment, but whatever.

Basically the only funding under JTFR for first time employee's is per diem for myself, movement of Household Goods, and my familys move.

Hell, I don't even get house hunting leave. It really sucks. Wife and I are looking at houses online right now trying to whittle our list down to a few before we drive out there for the move. We basically think we'll have about 2 days to choose a house before I start. Even then, if we can't move in immediately, we'll have to live out of a hotel room for a few days.

But, in the end, it will be worth it.

Well your military time will at least count for leave purposes and yes you can buy back your military time.

Right, very excited about that. I guess it's also factored into the retirement ticker too.

I appreciate all the help/comments from folks in this thread. I know it's not Camaro related at all, but it's helped my wife and I really solidify some of the decisions we've made on location, etc.

As for Camaro's, I cant wait to bring my IOM 2SS down there Looks like we will be driving both vehicles down together, so a nice road trip too

Best school district on that side of town is www.scuc.txed.net. Schertz, Cibolo, Universal City ISD. Great diversity and friendly towns. I live in Schertz. Location is great, people are great and your drive would be pretty easy. Search for places to live in the 78154 zip code.

Well, I'm still working on getting the job and relocated. Still haven't finalized Salary yet, but the job is 100% for sure. I guess the snails pace we've been moving, it may be March before I'm actually down there.

House hunting has become ridiculous.

March will be the perfect time to take a short drive to Corpus and enjoy a couple of cervezas on beach!

Hey Verio good to hear from you with an update! Hang in there, it will be worth it.

We went through the same thing when we moved from Chicago. We said yes to the move in October and even found the house we wanted, but then management dragged their feet signing the transfer papers until February. The wait was awful We couldn't put our house on the market until we had the papers in hand. The people who owned the house we wanted were getting pissed cause it was taking so long. Ugh it sucked.

Just so you know, March is the start of spring with the hummingbirds coming back, the Tx Mountain Laurels blooming (hmm grape soda pop in the air) along with the Bluebonnets, it's the time to plant tomatoes and other veggies (hoping no hailstorms take them out). All in all it's a wonderful time of the year.

Got my Final offer yesterday, I will be starting April 12th. Wife is flying out in a few weeks to look at houses and find a place for us to shack up in.

I've got a good question for the San Antonio folks... does anyone have a great detailer they would recommend?

My car has gone through a New England winter, and I've tried to take good care of it, I'm just afraid how she'll look after a good wash/wax. I won't have the time when I first move, and I'd like to pay someone to take their time with the car and treat me right.

Any suggestions? Experiences? Reviews?
