I'm sorry, what's an excise tax? Is it something like personal property tax. That's what we have here, but they don't send that out till the end of the year.

Makes me feel better that I didn't take a job in MA. Wow, I pay tax once on my vehicle here, not every year. Registartion is about 40 a year, so it's not that bad. WOW sucks to live in MA if you like your cars.

I HATE this state. So, we called up the Town Tax collector to find out how we can get a partial refund on our 2010 taxes, since we're moving to Texas in April....
First, I'm told that they can't issue a refund. After I gave her the WTF on the phone, she says "Well, we'll issue a refund once you bring the plates down to the registry....." I said "We can't bring our plates down to the Registry, we'll be in Texas... are you listening?" She said "Well I don't know what to tell you sir, your plates need to be brought down in person to the registry, good luck... and try your insurance agent if you have any questions." I didn't pay excise taxes last year, so I got wacked with a 1,382 bill for both years at once. I wouldn't pay it, except they sent me a letter saying they are going to impound my vehicle if I don't. I hate hate hate hate hate this state. Here's what's funny... I claim the same for State AND Federal Taxes.... I got 6,000 dollars back for Federal taxes... yet I owed MA 200 dollars. Riddle me that batman.

It is a re-occuring annual assesment that is supposed to re-imburse the cities and towns for road repair. This is a real joke here in Taxachusetts, home of the pot hole. Our gasoline tax is supposed to be used on state road and highway repair. HAHAHAHA, another funny joke from the land of the pot hole. The tolls from our toll roads and bridges are supposed to end when the road or bridge is paid for. The Massachusetts Turnpike was paid off in 1985 but governor Dukakis took out another loan for road repairs. The toll taker's jobs are a shining example of nepotism at it's best. The roads will never ever become FREEWAYS. We don't get the concept here in the People's Republic. Why make something free when you can tax it? I am keeping my SS forever because I have been a life long target of these taxes and I am sick of it. The excise tax goes down a little each year as the car depreciates in value. The sales tax is a wonder of progressive thinking too. Every time that the car changes hands the new owner gets to pay it yet one more time. If a car changes hands six times between new and the junk yard, the sales tax gets collected six times. If the bill of sale has a price on it that is lower than the state's book value, you get assessed the higher value for tax purposes. Sorry for being so long winded, but these taxes really iratate me.

HDDAN you forgot about sales taxes, and town sales taxes. I know Andover is like 7.2% also.
