G35 rear bumper stinks

According to Motor Trend, the luxury G35 by Nissan has a bumper so weak that 4 minor bumps can add up to $10,000 in damage.

How do you feel about safety in luxury cars? I figure that any car that belongs in that category should be fairly sturdy. If you pay that much in the first place and someone hits you without sufficient insurance, I wouldn't want to foot a bill after emptying my bank account for that machine. Then again, people who have luxury cars tend to have other luxuries, like financial security, that college students don't have.

Discuss.

Its not all about strength. The dollar damage can also be affected by the cost of a replacement bumper (as one significant bump is often enough to warrant a replacement) which can be affected by materials and paint used, etc. Also, if the bumper doesn't fully absorb all the energy of the impact and some instead goes to, say, the backup lights, that will cause more damage (more parts to be replaced=more money).

in most cases that's true but look at the G35 it as very little crumple room until you get to the taillights and trunk
