Front engine seal oil leak
I currently have a little over 68,000 miles on my LT v6/6pd...After having my oil changed this weekend the mechanic noticed I have a front engine seal leak. With that being said, I've noticed I've been having to add more oil to the engine more frequently...I thought it could just be burning oil but now I realize where the problem lies.
I plan on taking it to the dealer asap to have this problem addressed. The car is still under warranty. I am sweating bullets thinking this could be the start of an ongoing problem...Any input on this matter is highly appreciated! Some of the questions I have are: 1) Could this leak adversely effect my entire engine? 2) It is likely to start leaking oil again once it's fixed & become a recurrent problem? 3) What could have caused it to leak in the first place? Hard driving? Normal wear & tear on the engine? Last edited by GreenMachine11; 09-15-2013 at 11:29 PM. |

Sorry to hear this affected you too. I had mine into the dealer for what sounds like the same issue. All covered under warrenty. Nothiing to do with how you drove it.
Once fixed at the dealer you should be all set. Keep on driving (after fixed) and enjoy.

So how long does the warranty cover this leak? I'm at 66,### and noticed a very slight leak on mine.

Should be good for 5 year 100k mile warranty for engine and drive train, if I remember correctly.

Have them check the chains while they are in there.

I didn't even notice that mine had developed a small leak until I changed my chains at 117,000 miles. This is me, everything is there to do a timing chain change at that point. You have to remove the cover to get to it anyway. Ask how much to do the chains while they are in there. I'd guess you are 30000 to 40000 at the absolute most away from doing anyway, while some have worn before your mileage already .

The cover has a RTV sealant with a crankshaft seal. I had a small weep in the right front corner of the sealant. The major cost of the timing chain replacement is the labor it takes to get that front cover off anyway. I believe that mine is the highest mileage before needing replacing . Several others have not made it to 100,000 miles. I wouldn't sweat that oil leak at all. It will be an easy repair, albeit, time consuming.

Car just out of the dealership. Front seal changed and I had them to check the timing chain...They had to change it after only 42,000 miles (67 000 Km), and I drive really soft.
