Wrapping like 1LE.
http://www.amazon.com/3M-SATIN-Black...=3m+satin+wrap
I want to wrap my hood like the 1LE. Is this 5x6ft satin black wrap enough for the hood? and then is a 5x1 good enough for the trunk lid? I mostly want to do the hood because after a track day I can see why the hood is wrapped... lots of tire marks on my hood when i was done. |

hood should work, but that's not enough for the trunk. It's wider than 1'

wrapping a trunk seems like it would be a real PITA... but I kinda want to do mine.

Take the spoiler off first... Debadged... I bet it's pretty easy with that removed. Wrap or plastidip the spoiler separate. That's what i would try.

My apologies... i thought the trunk part was just the trunk spoiler. not the entire trunk. is it the whole trunk?
What are some other tools you recommend for this... any specific razor or squeegee? Also, what technique did you guys use for prep? Just some dishwasher soap or actual wax and grease remover? Aaaaand, I currently have rally strips from the factory. Do they just peel off easy and i can use some dishwasher soap to get rid of the glue (if there is any)? I can't imagine stretching and shrinking vinyl enough to get the trunk done in one piece... then again my vinyl skills are "intermediate" at best.

wrapping the hood looks really good but I think it looks best when you have a vent or vents on the hood as well it brakes up the wrap...and looks way better then just 1 piece of vinyl

I have the SS vent, but its also black... I might just paint the vent later.
And ya I think 5x1 will be good for the spoiler |

wrapped mine last week. a 6x5 sheet is the right size for the hood. unsure about the trunk though, but I would assume youd need more than 5x1....

For those of you who have done it, can it be done by myself or do you need two people?

It can be done with one person by laying it on the hood, ensuring equal coverage, then taping one side down to the fender and then removing about half of the film/backing from the vinyl on the opposite side and work the air out. Then move to the other side, pull the film tight, remove the backing and lay down the other side. You can use heat, but sparingly. You do not want to over stretch it as it will pull it thin. I used almost no heat my second time and only used it on a couple of tough spots when I helped a friend do his. PM anytime with questions and I will try to help if I can. |
