Its a good idea to strip b/c anything on the surface now (wax, sealant) will get picked up by the pads and further compound the issue as it too would clog the pad up.

if your pad picks up something and drags it along your paint, you'll get marring. this could happen from not polishing quickly enough after a wash, no or improper clay barring, or something could have just fallen onto your car unfortunately. i usually blame it on the most natural possibility, aka the one that won't piss me off the most. that's only for personal reasons, because the swirls don't go away any easier no matter the reason unfortunately.
as for "stripping" the paint, you don't need dawn. if you are polishing your car with a cutting agent, the cutting agent will remove any product currently on your car's paint on its own. no reason to create more work for yourself if you don't have to. that goes for washing after clay barring. wash, clay, polish, lsp (wax or sealant). you're done. |

Yeah, technically you can use any normal car shampoo (just use much more than the directed amount) and that can strip wax off (even if it says safe for wax).
The easiest way to get scratches is with anything that touches the car, washing drying etc. My favorite wash mitt to use is sheepskin http://www.detailedimage.com/DI-Acce...no-thumb-P209/ and my favorite drying is any shamois for the bulk, and waffle weave micro for the remainder: http://www.detailedimage.com/DI-Micr...00/36-x-24-S1/ And to apply and take wax off I use the ReThickulous: http://www.detailedimage.com/DI-Micr...18/16-x-16-S1/ |

that isn't to say WW's are unusable. your best bet is to just drag it (without putting much pressure) across your paint and let it pick some water up, then use a real MF towel with more catch to completely dry the rest. |
