First Clay Bar Pic
Today I did my first clay bar and wax.
I'm not sure if it shows up in the photo that well with the weird reflections etc, but here is a pic of after wash, after clay bar and after wax. Last edited by M3NTA7; 02-21-2012 at 03:25 PM. |

Oops, pic was too big. I re-sized to 1200 wide, now it shows up.

As far as refreshing the clay bar for each section, what I did was fold the clay bar onto itself so the dirty side was on the inside. I then flattened it out again after folding. This seemed to work really well as each new section was done with a fresh clay surface.

Looking good. I've been claying/polishing/waxing a little each day this week. Takes a while but it's worth it.

Next time try following up the clay bar with a finishing polish before you go onto the wax. Clay can actually leave marring on the paint which can easily be taken out with a light polish. That will also increase the shine a whole lot. Polishing is where you see the difference in appearance, not claying or waxing really. What kind of wax are you using right now?

My paint is looking fine, but I can't seem to get the swirls out of the (factory) stripes. I read on here not to clay them. Didn't want to rub to hard w/ the polish either

No, you shouldn't be touching them with clay or polish. Once vinyl is damaged, it's damaged. If you have gloss stripes, a glaze or sealant can fill the swirls and make them less visible. If you have matte stripes, LEAVE THEM ALONE.

I ended up using the Meguiar's Clay Bar kit that comes with the Quick Detailer. For the wax, I just used the Mequiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax and it was real easy to rub on and wipe off. |

You really need to use polish between the clay bar and wax...
