good read...thanks zfat!

"the system as a whole must be considered not only to more meaningfully improve performance, but also to retain or improve the driving experience."

this is precisely why I recently decided to stay with Trofeos and not convert to Hoosiers when I needed a another tire and contemplated switching...there is a significant cost savings with Hoosiers but it's clear they built the car around the Trofeos and they work well.

If tires make all the difference, then GM wouldn't have put all the other improvements into the car that the did. It foolish for anyone to think the tires alone are what makes a Z/28 so fast on a road course.

Did I miss something? They swapped rims and tires? Throwing off factory tuning and set up! Just swapping tires on the car's original rims would have been a better test.

Or... Did I miss something?

Possibly the taller softer sidewall for weight transfer.

Has anyone considered that the increased performance of the 1LE with the Trofeos is also due to the lighter wheels causing less rotating mass and the shorter gearing due to the 19" wheels?

Seems like a dumb test, if they could tune a ZL1 to those tires and wheels then run it.

Well...If any Z/28 owner wants to try this I'd be willing to donate my 1LE as a guinea pig!

They can drive their Z/28 with the Trofeo's, then swap their tires onto my 1LE and they can take my car out to compare lap times. Same driver, same tires, different cars!! As of now my car is stock so it would be as fair a test of GM engineering as we could manage.

Dumb?
How is it different to be tuning a ZL1 to Z/28 tires/wheels setup?

This test represent the first thing all of us track junkies with a Camaro thought when the Z/28 came out. What if & how can I get my hands on those Wheels/tires.
