Oil Pump :: HP vs HV
I'm getting ready to tear apart my M6 car, just missing the oil pump.
Normally I would let the stock one live for such small mods but with some people having problems with them I was going to order a melling one, however the vendor asked High Pressure or High Volume and I froze..... Builders any help is appreciated, or any other brand you may suggest?

High volume is my choice generally. Especially when building a real radical build where I run the tolerances a little on the loose side.

Most people run the Melling High Volume unit 10296 with the standard pressure spring, that's the one I'm going use, I think.
The Melling 10295 is like a stock unit standard volume that comes with a high presure spring 10lbs more than stock at all RPMs. Either way Mellings are real good units

Melling HV 10296 is all we use/HKE in our speced engines.
Ported and shimmed oem OP's are not what we recommend to our engine customers. They are a big money maker for the people selling them, but they are not what we would use. I've sent back 2 this month alone to the customer and provided them with the Melling instead. |

Maybe I talked to the wrong people but they said that the 10296 was better used for a higher tolerance engine.
They also said the HV could dry the oilpan in a sustained high rpm lapse. I know a drag race takes 10 secs (toretto style) but imagine going 155mph for 10mins... Anyway No one sells a bad product I guess...

What up man? How are your builds going? BTW, the 408 in the Silvy has a shimmed LS6 pump and the Camaro a stock pump. No issues with either and they both have heads/cam and other bolt ons.

The Orange Camaro was wrecked coming home from the track in the rain on the DR's. Haven't raced it since I ran the 10.9 but were hoping for 9's next. The Silverado should be done soon and I will be driving it down there early next year probably in February. The Hemi should be done soon too.

We always use a ls6 style pump, ported and pressure raised in-house. Never a problem from a stock car to a 7200 rpm, 900 rwhp setup. Our engines are built tight though.
