That's not a bad idea at all. Good one!

Yes you need to remove the front bumper for this one.

Give it a pull and it comes right off(forgot to take pic but imagine a SW with no front plate)

Magnets is the answer. 90 pounds of pull each.

2 more are in between the plate and the factory bracket.

There is a piece of plastic that pops out with 4 clips. Remove that and JB weld or however you see fit to glue the 2 magnets to the backside of the bumper cover so they dont run away when the plate isnt on. Then stick the front plate on and it simply pulls off when you dont want it there. Have hit some pretty hard bumps and its been fine. It does have a good amount of grip. Plus the magnets only hold it to the bumper. The OE bracket hooks to the grill to stop it from sliding down. I trust it completely.
Good idea but just don't park facing any metal shopping carts

This is the best front plate idea I've seen yet. The next time I remove my bumper I'll be doing this. Thanks!

Great work. I had thought about doing this myself, but was getting overly technical. I was trying to come up with a way to have an electromagent with a switch. Did you put some felt on the bracket to keep it from scratching the bumper?

No I did not use felt. It will only be on the car to get a "fix it" ticket signed off on. Other than that it will be in the trunk.

And I lied. The magnets are 116 pounds of pull each. Here is where I got mine.

http://www.amazingmagnets.com/show-decimal-d500k.aspx

These magnets are very strong. Please dont put one on each side of your hand. If they slide off they can come together and pinch a chunk of skin off. Ask my stupid friend. Do not put them in your pocket. Do not let them touch each other bare. They come together hard they can chip. Dont let them near computers or screens or your credit card or cell phone. Within a couple feet. They are neodymium magnets. Not regular magnets.

too technical for me. i mounted my front plates by drilling a few holes on the license plate adapter and ran a zip tie through the holes, around the buttom grill and tighten. very simple, no holes on the bumper, and cheap.

Thats what I had been doing but I wanted something easily replaceable and easily removable.

Designed and made my own bracket. Just finished painting it and mounted in 5 minutes.
