Will ice damage my finish?
So I live in South Texas where winters are a joke but last week it froze so there was a nice sheet of ice all over the Camaro. It was nice weather this week so I finally gave it a good wash and noticed there was a cruddy film over the bottom half of the car plus the wheels even after a thorough scrubbing. Is this something that'll eventually come off or is there something I can buy to get it back to normal? I'm especially concerned about the wheels since they have a cloudy haze to them now.

Ice will not damage the finish, and that film will eventually come off. It sounds like something that was put down on the roads in response to the ice. I drove through the mountains a few winters ago where they dump some kind of mixture of dirt and probably some other stuff on the roads where it is too cold for salt to work, and it really got caked on. It took 2 or 3 good washes to get it all off afterward.

If it falls from a tall building onto your car, probably.

Unless your car had absolutely no dirt on it before the ice got there then yes. Think how the glaciers carved the continents lol. It happened to my car. Fortunately they arent too bad and can kind of polish out.

If car wash soap didn't take the crud off, then mix up a strong batch of Dawn and water and wash it with that. Then a car wash soap, then rewax.
Sometimes road film can be tough to get off. Dawn is a little better at dissolving grime, but it also removes wax. |

This is exactly why if you use your car year round in ice adn snow make sure you give the paint a good wax finish. This will protect your cars finish.

I live in West Texas and my avatar is my car after the big freeze here. No damage from the Ice at all. Just make sure your car is not dirty as having a lot of dirt under the ice can produce small scratches as it slides off.
