PT Cruiser was first but that was a modern rod of sorts.

Then the Chevy HHR was retro but actually useful space wise.

4th gens had retro style but badly done with the Camaro having a bad botox job wide mouth bass look trying to be a early 2nd gen, [only the Firebird was hot.]

5th gen looking like a 1st was a natural progression.

6th gens will just look like some scribbles on a sheet of paper.

Park all next to the original models and none of them are anywhere close in physical dimension. The Challenger looks the closest to the original but the Camaro and Mustang have a much newer take on the classic look. Obviously between the two I'm going to pick the Camaro....

The way I remember it, as far as who started the trend towards revisiting the old designs, was Dodge with the challenger concept. Mustang has been around for a while, but they really didn't re-visit the old style until after Dodge brought out their Challenger concept.

the chally is the closest because they are using the same stampings as the originals for the 1/4 pnls on the new ones. which is also why its physically larger than the maro and stang.

I think the first to introduce the "retro" style that was actually revamping an existing model was the Ford Thunderbird in 2002. If you want to get TECHNICAL, you should include the VW new Beetle that rolled out in 1998.

The PT cruiser and Plymouth Prowler were kind of unique and not really revamps of existing cars in my opinion.

Don't forget that Ford brought back GT40 for limited production in 2004.

Dodge... has the un-unique ideas.

Ford... does it.

GM... does it right!

The way I remember it was like this, VW Beetle, then the Mustang redesign in late 2004-early 2005, then the Challenger Concept (2006...ish?), then the Camaro Concept (again, the year has slipped my mind)
