Z/28 and ZL1???

Lets just "pretend" there are two performance models on their way. One is the Z/28 and the other is the ZL1. What would you like to see each model geared towards and what would you want to see included in each model?

I can't think of a motor to go in the Z28. if we are going with a heritage perstective...

LS7 is on it's way out..... Obviously GM isn't going to produce a motor just for a z28 that can't be used in other cars.. maybe a NA DI Gen 5 something???

but the ZL1 is easy... LS9 all day long and twice on Sunday.

What about a freed up LS3..... free flowing intake/exhaust, a cam and agressive tune?

ZL1 = LS9 for me
Z/28 - Maybe LS3 with magnetic suspension or some other significant suspension upgrade.

Ideally
ZL1 - LS9 with all out performance upgrades, lightweight materials to counter the increased drivetrain weight.
Z/28 - Handling package for the SS with slight weight reduction.

Z28: Geared towards track use. The engine would be preferably naturally-aspirated, and slot somewhere in between an LS3 and an LS7. Honestly? If I could make dreams come true, it'd be a 460-480hp 5.7L Gen V engine. The car would be lighter-weight, and be equipped with the Magnetic ride control. The system would be dialed in to the max (ala the ZR1s setup). It would offer an interior upgrade option featuring leather-wrapped panels, and Recaro seats. This car would be priced just below a base Corvette. ~45-ish.

The original Z28 was a track car...throughout the ages, the nameplate has earned itself a high place as the Camaro's flagship trim-level. So it should excell in all areas of; handling, speed, refinement, and value -- and truly represent the best Camaro has to offer.

ZL1: Stripper car -- to assist in the lighter weight. It would feature a static suspension slotting above FE3, and be powered by a modified LS9(to the tune of ~750bhp). Pricing is not a concern beyond keeping it "reasonable"...GM should set a ceiling of $65,000 dollars (like they set a $100,000 ceiling for the ZR1), and have at it. Pull out all the stops -- carbon fiber, aluminum materials, massive tires, wide-body, whatever!

The original ZL1 was a scary-a$$ car. With the proper massaging, it could have given the current ZR1 Corvette a challenge at the drag strip. A modern version should continue that tradition. In '69, this car was expensive; you have to pay to play. A new one should feature that same prerequisite.

I get all tingly inside thinking about this possibility!

I like scary ass cars! I'm tuning a mid 10 second car and I'm already wishing the nitrous was hooked up so it would be faster!

some press releases are pointing to the DI being available within 2 years.
C7 and Z/28 both DI in their debut? I smell a conspiracy!

Z/28 should be the track pack code for SS models; same engines, more aggressive gearing, better suspension, different exhaust and be in the 5-7k range.

ZL1 should be a brutish thug with 550-600hp (maybe a tuned down LS9) and all the fixings of the Z/28. Starting in the 65k area.
