Dodge just seems to keep getting put further and further back with this war between GM and Ford... rumored 600hp from the 2012 GT500 and over 550 from ZL1... Then if ford fans really want more from the factory they get the 612 rwhp snake. Where did Dodge go? All I've seen new out of them since the challenger was entered was upgrade to a 392, although a nice addition in power and torque. That car is still too heavy to keep up with the GT and SS. What's Dodge's answer to the ZL1 and GT500? Thats my question, I'm seriously doubting a V10 challenger... But I heard of an SRT10 that once surface the net and then was sunk back in the water. Any ideas?

Listen at about the 35 to 36 second mark prior to braking for the corner, you can hear blower whine for a moment.

A Ford guy that I work with that owns a Fox Body 5.0 Mustang. Thats what he said anyway.

I was there, the local club was notified on Tuesday that the cars were there. I went up on Wednesday and Thursday. It was pretty cool..

There were club members running watches and these things were very, very fast...

Here are my post on two other sites a couple days after, pretty cool to be involved in something like this...

I can't talk about that stuff on here, that’s why I put up the other site links. It doesn't really matter anyway; these GT500's were running equipment that absolutely will not be offered on the stock versions. Regardless, the live rear axle did very well at Nurburgring and it seems the team was very pleased.

Intersting reading for sure, thanks for the post links. While the times are extremely impressive if they come to be I still don't think that is what the general public wants. Give me a good handling car and make it a stop light terror. I watched a motortrend video over the weekend where they paired stock CTS-V and a GT500 in the 1/4, the CTS-V won. IMO the bragging rights will go to the car that is running the best 1/4 purely stock. Ford and Chevy should be putting more $$$ into getting these cars to launch without hop and spin use the hp they already have instead of worrying about lap times that 1 out of every 100 owners may actually use.

yes, the zl1 will crush the current gt500. gm isn't going to release this car only to be beat by the status quo. however what is coming up from ford is anybodys guess.

I agree, the majority of onlookers will be more concerned with 1/4 mile times over all other aspects of performance. In my opinion, the 6L90 equipped ZL1 will be the faster of the two even though the auto can't use 3.73s. The 6L90's 1st gear ratio is 4.03 compared to the MG9's 2.66 so expect some good ol 3.23 or lower. I remember the video from R&T where the CTS-V beat the GT500, I paid special attention to the trap speeds and could easily tell the GT500 produces horrible 60 foot times. It was auto vs. manual and seeing that the cars were pretty evenly matched, I would never put my paycheck on the manual. It will take a pretty talented driver to operate the '13 GT500, even with the new suspension, launch control and possibly new tires. Your not going to win any races doing a 120 foot burnout... however, it is possible to make that lost time up as you can see the previous GT500's do with high trap speeds.

This GT500 was using two piece drilled (and maybe slotted too) rotors as one of the reports said, who knows what else was done to the cars. I can say that it sounds like a supercharger now that I have seen the video and the larger cooling system will weigh more than last year. I hope that means they are using a Coyote and could afford an extra 30-40lbs. We should see some info on the wheel/tire setup much later in the game.

I heard quite a bit of speculation while I was up there, I researched everything that was said... Pretty cool being there, I felt like a kid again...

I think the challenger Is more of the monte carlo of this gen than a pony car. Its a big spacious car that when you want to step on the gas its there.

Thanks for the links.....a 7:35 puts that car in some very thin air performance wise. That's three seconds faster than the Lexus LFA did,and five seconds faster than the Ford GT. Not to mention eight seconds faster than the Z06.

But as you stated, how much of that car will actually make it to the showroom?? Who knows....

There was a local guy (American) that attended the test days that owns a Boss 302 Laguna Seca. He claims to Ring the car in 7:45, he was not impressed with the GT500's performance. Also, all the cars you mentioned were older models, 2005 Z06, 2004 Ford GT and the LFA was only 560hp. I believe the two cars were going to be the SVT Performance Pack GT500 (black w/ blue strips) and a High end model such as an SVT FR500 (red). The red car had drilled rotors and someone said they were larger front and rear rotors. Both cars had a one piece bar but that was for drivers protection during testing. Team Corvette also modify the ZR1 to protect the driver in case of a crash.

Like I said on the other sites, the conditions were almost perfect. We had rain on Monday, Tuesday and a little bit on Wednesday. It was very cool with a little wind but nothing to hurt the cars performance. The traffic up there was almost non-existent so you can't ask for anything better than what they tested in other than a closed track (doesn't happen very often).

I had heard that Karl Geiger was up there but I didn't see him. I don't know if Americans know who he is but he is the top German tuner of American cars here in Germany and he is obsessed with the GT500. Every year since 2007, he has bought an imported a GT500 to tune and mod it. Pretty cool guy....
