2013 ZL1 Allocation Information

Hot off the press.

Quote:
To All Chevrolet Dealers:

The purpose of this message is to update all Chevrolet dealers on the allocation plans for the 2013 Camaro ZL1 coupe and new convertible models.

Plans to Fulfill Remaining 2012 ZL1 Guide

As many dealers are aware, as a result of unanticipated production issues, Chevrolet was unable to produce enough vehicles to satisfy the estimated production guide numbers for the 2012 Camaro ZL1 model run. Consequently, Chevrolet plans to use the initial allocation of 2013 Camaro ZL1 units to satisfy the remaining unfilled orders corresponding to the 2012 unfilled estimated production guide. These units will be allocated to the impacted dealers during this week’s Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) cycle (May 17 – 22, 2012). We anticipate these vehicles will be produced during the first four to six weeks of 2013 Camaro ZL1 production. Your Chevrolet District Manager can provide you with the quantity of these units available to your dealership.

Only the 2013 Camaro ZL1 coupe will be available during this DOSP cycle. There will be no convertible production available. If you want to take advantage of this availability, it is critical that you regenerate your Camaro ZL1 coupe orders as 2013 model year orders prior to Saturday, May 19, 2012. 2012 orders currently on hand will NOT be processed during this DOSP cycle for 2013 production. Dealers will find their allocation for 2013 Camaro ZL1 coupes for this DOSP cycle in the “controlled” allocation column immediately after the first May 2012 consensus cycle (which will be the first consensus cycle for the 2013 Camaro SS, LT and LS models).

2013 ZL1 Estimated Guide Number and Monthly Allocation

Chevrolet’s plans to cover the shortfall in the 2012 estimated guide number for Camaro ZL1 means the new 2013 Camaro ZL1 convertible will not start production for the U.S. market until early August 2012.

To guide customers’ expectations, each dealer will soon receive an estimated production guide number for the 2013 ZL1 coupe and 2013 ZL1 convertible models. The estimated guide number will be based on each dealer’s total Chevrolet retail sales (cars and trucks) and each dealer’s total Camaro retail sales (both coupes and convertible models) for the last 12 months ending April 2012. This 2013 estimated production guide number will be incremental to the 2013 initial allocation used to satisfy unfilled 2012 estimated production guide numbers as described above.

The estimated production guide number provided in the near future will cover 2013 model year production through December 2012. A new guide number will be generated for the remaining 2013 model year production during the 4th Quarter of 2012. Based on current production estimates, it is anticipated that every Chevrolet dealer who sold a Camaro at retail during the 2012 calendar year will be offered at least one (1) 2013 Camaro ZL1 during the 2013 model run production (Q3 2012 – Q2 2013).

The majority of the 2013 Camaro ZL1 production is coupe body style. For planning purposes, most Chevrolet dealers eligible for 2013 Camaro ZL1 estimated production guide should expect their allocation to be available only in the coupe body style.

Allocation of the 2013 Camaro ZL1 based on the estimated production guide numbers will start in June of 2012 and occur each month thereafter until the 2013 production year is completed in Q2 2013. Dealers will not consense for ZL1. If a dealer is receiving allocation of a 2013 ZL1 in a particular month, the allocation will appear in the “controlled allocation” column of the Final Allocation report after the first consensus cycle of that month. Allocation of the ZL1 will appear in the second week of the first cycle of the monthly consensus. For example, the first DOSP cycle for allocation against the 2013 estimated production guide number will occur June 21 - 26, 2012 (a list of dates for expected ZL1 allocation cycles is attached to this message). If the dealer is receiving an allocation for a 2013 Camaro ZL1 coupe, the allocation will appear under the “CAM” allocation group. If the dealer is receiving an allocation for a 2013 Camaro ZL1 convertible, the allocation will appear under the “CAMCON” allocation group.

It is important to note that since dealers are not entering a consensus number for ZL1, an individual dealer’s allocation will NOT be protected during the DOSP cycle. Dealers can avoid any issues and lost allocation risk by having buildable, constraint-free 2013 Camaro ZL1 coupe and convertible orders on hand at Event 1100 in the “preliminary tab” of Order Workbench at all times.

The estimated guide number described above will be provided to your District Manager the week of May 14, 2012. The guide number will also be posted on GMPrograminfo.com for dealers to reference sometime in the near future.

2013 ZL1 Hood Insert and Other Constraints

One issue that impacted ordering of the 2012 Camaro ZL1 was the unique carbon fiber hood insert, especially the availability constraints on the standard black painted hood insert. For 2013, the standard hood insert will be changed from a black painted hood insert to an Ashen Gray painted hood insert. This Ashen Gray painted insert will have a similar finish to the Ashen Gray currently found on the Camaro. The carbon fiber material used to create the insert does not change, just the finish. The optional exposed carbon fiber hood insert (RPO: B92) will also be available at an additional charge.

The change from a black painted insert to an Ashen Gray painted insert should reduce the need for a constraint while providing customers more appearance choices. A solid hood and rear deck lid stripe option that closely matches the hood insert appearance will also be available at an additional charge. Please note however, the stripe will only appear on the rear deck lid if the customer selects a sunroof on the coupe or a convertible model.

The new for 2013 Blue Ray Metallic exterior color (RPO: GXH) and the optional Chevy MyLink Color Connected radio with GPS Navigation (RPO: UHQ) will also not be available until 2013 ZL1 Convertible production starts in early August. These constraints apply not just to ZL1 but all Camaro models (SS, LT and LS). Please monitor the constraint information provided weekly for further updates.

Good luck and good selling.

Sincerely,

Russell M. Clark

Director – Chevrolet Small Cars, Small Utilities and

Performance Cars Marketing
So, in a nutshell. ZL1 will still be limited. The convertible won't be built until August along with Blue Ray Metallic and NAV. Black hood insert is being replaced by Ashen Gray hood insert.

"A solid hood" i really hope no dealership EVER orders that. the hood is a huge part of what makes a ZL1 a ZL1. Though wonder how much extra it will be to get exposed carbon insert (shouldn't it be cheaper since they don't have to paint it??) and why does painting it gray instead of black make things easier? Also by the above statement it seems like there will be 2013 zl1 and SS camaros out there without the mylink =/

I'm assuming the constraint mentioning Mylink is for the MyLink with Navigation Only - Now I need to decide if I really want to wait just for the Nav...

Also, it mentions being sat at Event 1100 - I'm currently sat at 2030 - order edited or modified - is this likley to cause an issue?

What it says is "A solid hood and rear deck lid stripe". Solid stripe. I thought the same thing as first read it.

"optional Chevy MyLink Color Connected radio with GPS Navigation" that mean the whole mylink thing or the nav add on to it, wording a bit unclear. If they just meant the nav only then should it have read like "optional GPS Navigation" or "optional GPS Navigation add on to the Chevy MyLink Color Connected radio".

Also i really don't see how they splitting it up, our camaros already have gps, all it should be is a software update so the gps showing on the touch screen.

After seeing that, I'm really glad I went with the GT500. It looks like I would have a slim chance of seeing a ZL1 for the 2013 MY too.

Being at 2030 will not cause any issues with your order.

Thanks for the updates. Since I'll be waiting for the convertible it appears at this time I will not need to worry whether I can get the NAV system. I was hoping to see the BRM colour before the convertible production started. I guess I'll wait and see it on the Corvette. We're still leaning heavily to ashen grey with the ECF hood insert. I'm guessing MSRP is going to be close to if not a bit over $70K for a loaded convertible.

You're welcome folks.

I think once they get caught up on the remaining 2012 orders that will be built as '13s, we'll start to see more of them being built for stock. Hopefully by fall/winter, anyone that wants one should be able to get one without too much trouble.

WOW! Thats a mouth full! Leave it to GM to mess up something good. They have a good product finally that everyone wants. Just up the production and produce cars. Isn't this what they do for a living? If the public wanted 5,000 or 10,000 cars they should be able to produce them. I am willing to bet the foreign car companies would figure out very quickly
how to produce more cars to meet the demand. Its still an assembly line production car. Whats the big mystery? More cars produced = more money made = more profits = happy share holders!!! ITS ALL GOOD!!!

I'm just wondering if the unfilled MY 2012's that are now going to be the first MY 2013's will get the carbon fiber inserts at no extra cost. It's not a deal breaker but it would be nice.

If You paint the carbon fiber it hides any imperfections in the fiber. If you clear coat it, it has to be perfect.
