Engine temp too high, AC deactivated?
WTH!
Had this happen twice today. Outside temp was 88-90c. The fan finally started working and the temp returned to normal but it freaked me out. Is there a recall or update I need?

When you first started it, or when it had been running a while?
The fans should come on before you get overheating warnings. How hot was it? Did the gauge go up, or where you looking at the digital temperature display?

The AC is supposed to turn off if the engine is over heating, that is normal. It's in the manual.

I was stopped at a light both times. The temp gauge got 3/4 of the way to red.

Does this happen every time you stop and idle, or is it more sporadic. If every time, it should be easy for your dealer to reproduce.

I have the extended 50k/84 month warranty, but my car only has 7k miles on it anyway lol. I do have a CAI inc CAI, not sure if that would cause an issue. I will get it checked out Monday and update the thread.

I am the FIRST camaro owner that experienced this problem... i assume you are talking about THIS correct??
If this is what you saw send me a PM.. this happened to my 1LT/RS just barely after i had it for no less than a month.. it happened multiple times after the service techs had replaced the Temp gauge and the PCM... but they wouldnt take my car back so i traded it for the 1SS I have now.. your car is NOT overheating.. its an electrical malfunction somewhere....

THAT BOOST TURNS HEADS
|
This happen to my car as well but I thought it was my turbo that was making it to hot under the hood for the AC. So this is an electrical problem ?

I took it to a local place (since I didnt want to drive 30 miles and explode).
They put about 1 gallon of dex+distilled, so I am hoping that was the cause. Although I would have thought that the 'low coolant' warning would turn on before the coolant got to a level that required the AC to have to be turned off Anyway hope its fixed, I will get it serviced by a GM dealer in the next few weeks just to be sure.

If im not wrong I do not think our cars have a low coolant light, because usually the sensor is located in the expansion tank, since we don't have one, I'm pretty our car is not equipped with the dummy light.
Now this light you are seeing in your dash comes on for a couple reasons, 1 when your engine is overheating, 2 when your ECT sensor is getting faulty readings, 3 when your ECT sensor detects or senses that your coolant is substantially hotter (almost overheating) then the ambient air temperature. A simple fix for a tech is to observe the ECT data on the scan tool and make sure all parameters are correct, if not, inspect for damaged wires or a faulty sensor. And last but not least, a low coolant level, or improperly mixed coolant can also cause this light to come, like someone posted above. Top up your coolant to spec, check your freeze protection rating, if all good, drive it and see if the light comes back on. If it does you have other problems, if not your good to go. This light will also set a DTC in your ECM, the tech should be able to pull the code and diagnose it if the problem does ever occur again.
