Could she have it put into a pendant that has a compartment inside and then put on a chain?
Maybe even one with a glass cover that the ring could still be visible.
Something similar to this.

I wear a necklace with a pendant that my great grandfather (whom I was named after) wore. I, too, was worried about the O-ring stretching and breaking, thusly losing the pendant.
My local jeweler found me the best option. The chain isn't suitable for a lady, but the best bit of advice is having the O-ring welded shut, eliminating the possibility of it stretching and opening.
The O-ring comes actually shaped like "C" and they crimp it to an O and then weld the ends together.

This is true....which is why I have had every single LOOP soldered into a solid loop......AND the absolute best clasp to put on the chain is a LOBSTER Clasp....I have never seen break or come apart.

I have a James Avery necklace I've worn for 14 years... with a cross on it and my wedding ring half the time... Offshore...My mastiff hooked his claws in it numerous times... it just hangs in there like a champ... If there is a James Avery in the area, check them out, or look online...

She Loved It!!!

Thank you all for the kind attention and advice with this matter,
