I think around '95 or '96 you could pick up a Formula Firehawk, but that's it.

Still, at start of 4th gen production there are no WS6 or SS F-Bodies. The SS Camaro didn't Start till '96 I believe it was and the 4th gen went into production in '93. So yeah, the first year of production is NOT historically when you get the best models.
The Formula was more than that it was essentially a Trans Am without all the frills. My friend had a 1979 Formula with the WS6 package and I had a 1979 Trans Am with it. It's more of a recent thing where they hold off on top models in the past you could get top models right away. Even the Z/28 was available in 1967.

The question I asked in my post is deeper than meets the eye, I don't think you caught it Mr corner bar stool sitter (I'm watching you from the other corner).

Of course there are no Z51 badges, unless you go aftermarket. Ditto for the SS 1LE package, unless you go aftermarket, like Emblempros on here. Interestingly enough, he needs licensing from GM to sell the 1LE emblems. The Z51 emblem can be bought from him as well fwiw http://emblempros.com/inc/sdetail/6962/17655 .

Still don't think Chevrolet will spit out the 1LE first year new chassis is out....

If you're referring to your emblem question (the only question I could find), I never responded to that, and I hope that you aren't thinking that I did. I generally avoid commenting on the appearance-related portions of discussions.

Holy smokes! Norm, I did think it was you, but it wasn't upon closer inspection here !!

My excuse is, I used my very old, dusty iPhone 4 to post dat and the screen is if course, quite small.

I was replying to BRMike's quote below here..

In the '70s a Formula was a Firebird with a V8, could be had with a number of different V8s. Oh yeah, and a hood.... Its always been a cheap way to get a good performing F-Body.

Yes it had a V8, however other Firebirds had V8's as well.

Yeah, but if you opted for a formula, more engine options opened up.

True. You could option a Formula very close to a Trans Am. Performance wise it could be the same as the T/A.

It's all about their competition. Ford is offering a track pack (on the new Mustang). No reason why Chevrolet won't also offer the "performance package" on the new Camaro.

Aside from how many view and treat the 1LE, it is not a standalone model. It's a performance package for the SS. And Chevrolet will want to keep up the competition with Ford.

There will be some sort of handling/performance package on the 2016. Bank on it. The Camaro was developed on a shoestring. This time is different. Chevy will match Ford to keep up the Camaro popularity momentum. They would be stupid to do otherwise and they are not stupid. Performance sells even if people don't use it.

But I disagree that the base Camaro SS is a bad handling car. The 2010-11s had way too much understeer, but the FE4 revision in 2012 was a good step up. Even the 2010-11 was pretty fast on a track with a good driver and tires even if a little freaky.

But oh yea, the 1LE is a big step up. I don't really see how Chevy can top it. We can forget much lighter, the new Camaro is pretty big and based on the CTS version of the Alpha platform. My guess? 3,750 for a base SS. HiPo versions will be heavier.

Oh and BTW if you really want/need them ZL1 front brakes are pretty cheap to add.

And that's why I always liked the Formula. Great drivetrain, low build numbers. But it was still a Firebird, didnt have all the flashy stuff the T/A did.

The Formula, for many years made the Camaro feel as if it was missing a in between model. 3rd and 4th gens had to go to the top model to get the good engines, not so with the Firebird Formula
