Opinions Please!

Hey guys, new member here! I'll update my profile once I actually get my camaro lol. I've been doing my research for the past year or so and I've been wanting one since I was little. I just graduated college and got a full time job and I'm going to save up a couple months to put a hefty down payment on a it! I had a couple question, and would like some suggestions as well.

I plan on getting a 2SS with the RS package. I won't be racing it, so I really don't think I would need the 1LE package.

I can't decide on getting a 2015 when they come out, or waiting and getting a 6th Gen 2016 (mainly because I have no idea what they'll look like, but I definitely like the current 5th gen).

Also, any color recommendations? I'm open to the Rally stripes too. What are your favorite combinations of colors?

Is it worth getting the MyLink radio with Navigation? I mainly just use my phone for navigation, but I know the HUD on the 2SS can show you which directions to turn and everything, but is that worth an additional $800?

Lastly, what mods do people typically like to do? I want to keep mine pretty clean, but am open to small things, and anything to increase performance and stuff.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

Just traded my 45th anniv 2012 2SS for 2014 2SS/RS manual, npp, sunroof, Nav etc. Love this car so much more than the 2012 auto. There won't be any changes for 2015 except some high performance options that you probably won't want. I chose ashen gray because it doesn't show dirt, but of course black cars look great if you are in to car washing big time. Whatever color you choose you will love. The 2016 will likely have a more rounded front with the common Chevy look shared by Malibu, impala and others and will have the ATS platform. Go for it now.

Yeah, I didn't want the sunroof necessarily, and I know 2015 won't look much different since it'll be the same gen. I saw the differences that they'll offer, along with some commemorative package. I don't know what they'd commemorate though? lol.

I have a black grand prix right now, and I know it's not awesome or anything but it's mine and I've taken good care of it and love the shine I can get on it after I wash it. I've always been attracted to the Charcoal Gray color like the Ashen Gray provides.

I've thought about doing Ashen Gray with black stripes and possibly getting some stylish aftermarket black rims to match. (I don't like the black one's chevy offers without the 1LE package, and don't really find the justification in getting the 1LE just for the rims.

If they bring back that Synergy Green however, I'm definitely going to go with that. I know it's not for some people, but I've seen one in person and loved it!

I totally agree with going with the 5th gen if the 2016 does end up being more rounded and european styled. I really like the American muscle car look they have now and if they stray off too drastically, I'll definitely go with the 2015.

OP, you'll get lots of opinions, so here's mine. First let me say, I like that you are researching and learning about these beautiful cars before buying. Smart man and good luck when you are ready to pull the trigger.

I can't decide on getting a 2015 when they come out, or waiting and getting a 6th Gen 2016 (mainly because I have no idea what they'll look like, but I definitely like the current 5th gen).

* If I were you, I'd wait 'til the 15s come out and see what they offer over the 14s and below (probably late fall - I know that seems a long way off). If there's not a significant difference that you really like, you will be able to get new 14s (and even still some "new" 13s) for a reduced price. We probably won't know for sure what the 6th Gens look like until next summer, if you can wait that long. Patience is your friend when it comes to buying a new car, and you could have a really nice fat down payment the longer you wait.

Also, any color recommendations? I'm open to the Rally stripes too. What are your favorite combinations of colors?

* It depends on your personal taste. Black is beautiful, but it's extra hot in the summer and a bitch to keep clean. I know, I had a black '12 1LT before I got my silver SS. In my opinion, Silver shows dust and dirt the least and you can get by with much less washing - especially if you keep a good coat of wax on it. White looks great too and is probably the second easiest color to maintain.

Is it worth getting the MyLink radio with Navigation? I mainly just use my phone for navigation, but I know the HUD on the 2SS can show you which directions to turn and everything, but is that worth an additional $800?

* I don't have navigation but I've heard many people say they like it. If you plan on going to lots of unfamiliar places, it may be worth it to you, but I have a Garmin that works just fine.

Lastly, what mods do people typically like to do? I want to keep mine pretty clean, but am open to small things, and anything to increase performance and stuff.

* First recommendation - get a good Catch Can to help keep the inside of your engine clean.

You can liven up the throttle response considerably with a good air intake (I have a CAI brand), a Vmax ported throttle body (assuming GM isn't going to incorporate that in the next year models), and a Apex air scoop and washer bottle relocation kit. Those items will run you about $700 but are well worth it.

If you get the standard exhaust, it won't be long before you'll want to replace it with a nice sounding axle-back system (I love my Solos w/ J-pipes (nice true V8 sound with no exhaust drone).

If you get an automatic with AFM, you will definitely need to get a Range AFM disabling device ($200). Otherwise you'll have to put up with the annoying 4 cylinder mode farting, or get it tuned out (but that will void much of your powertrain warranty).

That'll get you started...

Get a '14, it's Camaro weather!

Picked up my fully loaded 2014 Camaro 2SS/RS on fathers day weekend (Saturday the 14th, just before the 'stop sales' order?).

Blue Ray Metallic with Silver rally stripes. Black / Blue leather (two tone) with Blue accent interior trim package. In my opinion, the MyLink upgrade radio is definitely worth it with all the features. I've gotten many thumbs-up & compliments about the color / stripe combo. Just joined, I will ad some pics soon.

I have a 2014 2LT in Blue Ray Metallic. I was on the fence with the color because I also liked Red Hot (would have been my second choice) and Ashen Grey Metallic (choice 2B). In the end, Blue Ray Metallic won out because it looks so damn good in the sun.

MyLink radio is great; I get compliments from friends who have luxury cars that much prefer the way MyLink looks in dash and how it operates. Personally, I don't use it for navigation (I use my GS4 because I don't plan on keeping OnStar after the trial subscription). But the sound is outstanding and I've found the touchscreen to be smooth and responsive.

Wait for the 2016 design to come out and then decide. If you like it, you'll be able to get one and if you don't, you should be able to find a great deal on a 5th gen.

I prefer the 1LE because of the options it adds with the hood and spoiler, I think it looks cool with red, summit white and silver it offsets the hood nicely. If you only get the rally stripes, I love the blue ray (I own it) with silver stripes. Black looks nice with anything as does red it seems, black and red stripes is a cool combo. Go to Chevy's website and add the different combos it'll give you a good idea of how it looks!

I don't know anything about the nav.

Mods : CAI (rotofab, CAI, Injen, Ram Air) exhaust, throttle body, windshield wiper relocator for CAI. Those are the most simple right now.

I'd say: get a white car. I was nuts to get an IBM Camaro, although I love the color so much. The rock chips are brutal

Thanks guys. I know the configuration and features I want, other than the navigation. I didn't realize the navigation was provided by onstar, and I wouldn't really be interested in keeping that after the trial either.

I never considered blue ray with silver stripes, that would lol awesome. I've considered red and black as well, not to mention it was my high scho colors, but the closest thing chevy offers on the website to red stripes is the inferno orange?

I've built and configured tons of them, and I was really just deciding between the 2016 (if I end up liking the way it looks), the 2015, or even the 2014 if they get the lowered prices when the '15's come out. Especially since they're basically replacing the Blue Ray Metallic with a velvet blue that I may not like.

Thanks for the recommendations PalmerGA! I'm going with a standard so I won't be getting the AFM, lol.
Do any of the other mods cancel the warranty though?

Oustaz, I planned on doing that anyways. I'm really going to hate if they go with a European styling but we'll know soon and I can wait and save until then lol.

Sstephen17, does the blue ray metallic get hard to maintain and take care of? I'll be taking care of whatever camaro I get like it's my baby, but I don't want the smallest dust particles showing up after 1 miles of driving lol.

I love my blu ray metallic, it's such a great color. None of those things cancel your warranty though that I know of. Chevrolet has to prove the part made a malfunction and none of those things will cause that. I'm not an expert though.

I haven't washed my car in 3 weeks I've been so busy. Also, excuse the one rim lol, I was messing around. But i'm getting new rims this weekend, woo hoo! But yeah dust can only be seen really close up.

None of the other mods I mentioned negatively effect the warranty.
