Someone in another thread said the 3.91 gears at 80 mph would raise the rpms by 360 in 6th gear. This seems like it would be too much if you drive hiway at all.

The gearing the the transmissions are different between the two.

Strongly recommend to only use AAM gears from LPE. Richmonds have been known to break.

I had 4.10s in my M6, it was fine. It did raise the RPM by about 400 at highways speeds but 6th was so LOOOOOW to begin with, you dont even notice.... it actually makes it so you get into 6th. Now that I have my 3.45s back i never go into 6th as it bogs the car down.

I am getting the 3.91s someday Its third on the list...

I wouldn't like the multi state trips with my hiway rpms that high. Your car bogs at 70-80 mph in 6th gear? I've not noticed that over the past 31k miles.

I had a set of Richmond 3.73s in my L99 for almost a year, had some issues with them and then switched to LPE 3.91 gears. My car is a DD and certainly not over geared. The 3.91s make the car feel about 1000 lbs lighter, especially now with the Maggie sitting on top!!!

They are certainly not to much for street driving once you learn to drive them. YOu would be wise to get some wider rubber on the rear end. I have 315s on now and can still break them loose any time I want to but if I drive the car right, you can still get on the throttle plenty hard and keep traction, even with 3.91s and a maggie SCer.

Maybe bogs is the wrong word. It's just so low in the RPM range it's a dog... 6th is like .57:1 or something so that makes sense. I just don't like not having any power when on the highway but I use my car for fun so not really worried about the extra gas or higher rpm. I could see using it as a dd it may be an issue.

What kind of rwhp are you putting down? I was considering 3.73's but Im afraid that any traction I may have will be gone.

I was told by the shop that I'm having do the install to order the full kit. I figure that if I'm paying 800 bucks for my 3.91's then what's another $200 for the complete kit. But I'm just glad to hear that there is a big difference between the stock gear and the 3.91. Quick question for FiftyDriver, I'm , ls3, m6, n/a w/ a cam and tune....460 to the rear wheels... will I be able to break the rear wheels loose with the 3.91's?? And will the 315's tires fit my stock rims and then fit on the car? And what brand tires did you go with? (not to get off topic)

If you have 460 to the ground you should be able to burn any tire you can put on the car as long as your getting all the HP and torque to the ground, even with 315s.

I think I have read a couple places where guys put 315s on their factory rims but it kind of defeats the purpose because the tread is distorted enough that the actual gains in tread contact is not much larger then the factory 275s.

I got a set of 11" wide rear wheels which are about perfect for the 315s and if you get the right ones they fit under the car with no mods other then needing to reposition the break lines slightly so they do not rub the new wheels. My car is also lowered with no rubbing.
