I still don't get this car. It seems like GM is using it as an excuse to not have a RWD, V8 sedan any more. They show it in that boring silver color, no manual trans option, stupid name, very little marketing (that I have seen) and very few options.

It's basically just a Holden export program. The Australian auto industry isn't exactly in the best shape ever right now (Ford's pulling manufacturing out completely) so if GM can ship Holdens somewhere, they'll do it.

As for marketing, there's a reason it runs in NASCAR.

Options list is short because the car is already pretty well equipped. It's essentially an Impala SS price-wise, size-wise, and performance-wise.

In addition, I think GM simply wants to avoid another G8 fiasco with inventory roasting on dealer lots for months until incentives were slapped on the hood or Pontiac's shutdown was announced. Let's be honest, full size V8 RWD sedans don't exactly sell like hotcakes for any manufacturer. You could stick the LFX in the car which would bring in more volume, but then you'd have two V6-powered full size sedans in the lineup.

GM will sell every SS they build, but it will be a low-volume car. That was the intent from the start.

Also remember it's not the most fuel efficient thing in the world and GM has CAFE constantly lurking over its shoulder.

Why wouldnt you?? Have you ever been in a G8 GXP? Probably not so you will never understand. The Commodore is quite likely the best driving car you can have under $75k. Its insanely balanced, has amazing steering (why GM changed that in the Camaro from the G8 I will never know) and is very roomy.

The Charger R/T is going to get destroyed by this car even WITH the 8 speed. The LX just cant match Zeta in driving dynamics.

What else is there? Yea, not much. Not everybody wants people to know that their car is fast (looking at you Charger SRT8) and lots like to have the extra utility that the sedan offers.

The best part? The SRT8 has a worse lb/hp than the SS so its probably going to be a straight up drivers race despite the SRT8 having lots more power yet it will destroy it on the curves. The SRT8 is quite literally a one trick pony where the SS can do it all.

As Fenwick said, you need to really research this crap before you post nonsense over and over again.

Because an SS is a Driver's car. Not a Tank (a la Charger/300 )

Not really. That is coming from someone who WANTS a Charger SRT8 Core. It just didnt drive near as good as my old G8 GT. Its sad but its a fact of the LX platform. Hopefully the updated platform can give the Charger a sporty feel.

Show me a SS or GXP running 12.3s in the 1/4 mile BONE STOCK. The SRT8 can...... And that is with the 5 speed automatic. SS will simply not touch the SRT in the 1/4 mile. And why do you compare the 44k SS with the 30K R/T instead of say the 44k SRT-8 or Superbee? Also with the 11 updates the LX cars have been referred to as BMW's when BMW knew how to build a driver's car. I am sure all the mags will be in a hurry to compare the SS against the pre-update LX cars so they MIGHT have a chance at some empty victory but like when the 08 G8 came out and was only compared to the 08 Charger R/T and in 09 when the Charger got a SIGNIFIGANT engine upgrade it was never given a rematch.

GM possibly limiting the SS to around 2000 per year instead of the origionally projected 10000-15000

agree! just can't slap a v8 in a rwd sedan , call it a SS and think it's gonna be faster. So, the charger has everything and more. The SS or whatever these ppl
wanna call their rebadged sedan doesn't have nothing on the charger.

I guess GM is trying to prevent any inventory problems down the line.
