Question Yellow Top Battery #?

Ok, lately I have been having problems with my car cranking up. I took it to auto zone to have the battery check and they told me that the battery is completely dead. I asked them if they have a yellowtop battery for the Camaro ss and they told me no. I know people on here are using that type of battery.

Does anybody know the battery number or part number so that I can buy one.

Also, I know our current battery has a vent hose attached to them, I don't think the yellowtop batteries come with a vent line, will that cause a problem?

i dont think the optima batteries need any vent, different technology and that's why they cost so much. They can be mounted upside down in the passenger area. They use a solid material... No liquid acid. I think you're better getting a red top and saving a few bucks. You shouldn't need the deep cycling.

From what I was reading the yellow top was better than the red top. I have a car audio system and a supercharger and wonder which would help better and think the yellowtop would. Do you know what part number I need

I am running a yellow top D34/78, i did cut out the factory battery tray and install one designed for the optima. The optima is a gel cell battery, no venting needed. the top terminals do need to be bent a little bit to get them to fit, I changed out my terminals as well but i remember i had to bend the stock terminals flatter

The red top has more cranking current. For starting and regular use its the better choice. If you store your car or use electronics with engine off, yellow top might be better.

I bought my last 2 at advance auto using their coupons. They often have 40-50% off and free shipping... So you might check them out.

yellow top optima is a bad idea it is designed for deep cycling and rest at a slightly lower voltage and has a slow discharge rate compared to other batteries.it will be harder on your charging system and with the extra distance from the starter due to the battery location it is just not the ideal solution. The red top would be better choice if you want to stay with the optima brand.

It sounds like the red top battery is the way to go. What is the model/part number for the red top? Does the red top require modification or replacement of the factory battery tray like it does for the yellow top (as mentioned above)?

My battery hasn't acted up yet, but I've had my 2010 SS for 4 years and 3 months now, and I think I need to go ahead and replace it before it goes bad or starts leaking.

same case shape for any of the optimas. they would all require something to hold them in place

Yea Optima only makes a few sizes. Camaro used some odd ball size battery and there us no Optima equivalent... So you'll have to do some mods.

The 34/78 should have both the side and top terminals. The 78 has the side terminals... This is the old GM battery size used forever. 34 is the same size with top terminals. 74 is another side terminal battery slightly smaller than the 78 and used in lots of GM vehicles. You can usually replace a 78 with a 74, but not the other way around.

looks like the stock battery has top terminals. so either of these should work. I'm guessing you have to remove/modify the foam to fit these batteries.

Sears does sell this AGM battery (same as red top) that is a direct fit. Even though I like the Optima batteries, I would probably go with this myself just to keep it stock. On sale for $162.
