How long does it last? If less than 30 seconds, it's normal. Something about getting to 75 degrees.

The engine is supposed to idle up when it is cold.

You are experiencing the fast idle on cold start-up, this is normal, it lasts no more the a minute or two at the most, enjoy the exhaust note, watch the tach for it to settle down around 500 RPM, then roll.

High idle on a cold engine with cold oil - man I hate to think of the unnecessary engine wear :(
Wish i could just let it idle normal for a few minutes until things start to warm up.

There isn't any undue wear from this. Your superior oils of today coat all of the parts with protective additives. No such thing as a "dry start".

Besides messing with the timing, which probably isnt recommended on a stock setup, this is natural

I use Mobil 1, does that film of oil last 2 to 3 weeks between start ups?
