Just checked my oil catch can - wow

I guess it's better for this oil to be in the can vs being burned but it's scary that so much has accumulated. Last time I emptied it was when I changed my oil, which was around 10k miles ago.

Before this opens up Pandora's box and moved to another subforum.

Catch cans are great, they do exactly as advertised ... and that's to prevent / minimize the oil that would otherwise end up in the intake.

How useful they are or whether that's even worth it is another debate that can found here, here, here, here and here*10,000

Change your oil more often.

An unmaintained catch can is more dangerous than running without.

I usually check mine every few months but hadn't for whatever reason. I've had it installed for 3 years and this is the first time it's been this full.

Change your oil every 3000-5000miles max! Dump you catch can every 1000 miles. Your not supposed to let it get more than 1/3 full.

Idk about 3000, 5000 every few months seems about right.

Every 3000 for non cammed cars seems excessive.

I do it 3-4 times a year no matter what.

I change mine every 8k and have always had good reports from Blackstone. Not too sure why people are freaking out about a 10k change.

I change it when the oil life gets to 20-30%. It's a weekend car that doesn't get drive hard. With a synthetic oil, 10k isn't excessive at all.

If the oil was supposed to be changes at 3-5k mile intervals then GM would've programmed their management system to reflect that.

Exactly - especially when it's driven by the OLM. If it hit 20-30% in 3-5k miles is happily change it, but it doesn't.

3-5k is way too often for a car that doesn't get driven hard.

Waste of $$.

I think you got bigger problems than not just changing the catch can often enough. That much accumulated oil in 10K miles on a non-direct injected engine is NOT good.
