Stuff like a not reclining seat or nonfunctional window switch would count on the JD Power initial reliability survey.

I haven't tried to fit my kids into the back seat of a 6th Gen yet but after owning a 5th Gen with two teenage boys it was a no go. It was constant complaining and wanting us front seat folks to pull our seats forward. Honestly I didn't want to be bring them for rides unless they were in the front seat. Now I hear the 6th Gen is smaller.
I eventually sold the Camaro and bought an SRT8 Challenger. For the most part the complaints stopped as they had room. Performance there was no comparison the 392 was a full 1/2 second faster. I never been a canyon carver so that wasn't a big deal for me. I would say if your intention is to use the back seats in your car save yourself the future aggrevation and pass on the 6th gen. Reliability no issues with my Challenger. Dodge Rams since 2004 no issues. Camaro lost an alternator, battery, and clutch in 1st year. Our 2012 Honda is a complete POS so don't weigh to heavily into consumer reports.

Dollar for dollar I would rather decide between a '15 SRT with 10-15kmi on it and a new Camaro 2SS. After Driving the SRT I'm not sure I'd be happy with a Scat Pack. The decision between seating capacity, looks, handling, straight line performance, and paddle shift response are all going to be user specific, Buy what appeals to you and be happy with it. There is always going to be something faster, that handles better, bla, bla, bla next year. Having the newest, latest, greatest is only temporary.

FYI, newish SRT models have been popping up at Carmax in my area for a STEAL. 5K - 8K mile 2015 models for $42K - $43K fully loaded with 8 speed auto. That's the way I'd go. I almost bought one but don't need two Challengers.

Exactly, The SRT I test drove was a 2015 w/ 7kmi , Manual (which I wanted) in the light blue (which I liked) and had every option but sunroof (as I would like) and they were only asking $44k and that was before negotiating any price drop, I'm sure I could have gotten it closer to $41k If I tried, it was traded in at a truck dealership that didn't really deal with cars, so they just wanted to get their money back out of it and send it down the road.

Speaking as one who owned a 2014 R/T for two years, and now owns a 5th Gen Camaro SS, I would choose the Challenger if I were in your shoes. It really is a much better family car than the Camaro could ever hope to be. Real human adults can fit in the back seat!
The best part about the modern era of muscle is it is very difficult to go wrong at all with any V8! Except Ford, of course!

I guess I don't understand things as well as I should, but I cannot see having a two door car to use as family transport. There are 4 door cars that offer a high level of performance (Subaru STI - OK the EJ257 sounds like it belongs in a tractor) for ~$40K. For ~$45K the Chevy SS brings a lot of bang for the buck to the table.
Most of this may have been said. I didn't read through the entire 6 pages of posts.

I guess some just flat out don't like 4 door cars. I personally do not and would live with the inconvenience of a 2 door for those times I had to haul a kid around (if I had any) or I'd have a second SUV or something.

I can speak from experience. I have 3 girls and own both a 5th gen and challengers. The 5th gen makes for a crowed ride. I can not imagine the 6th gen. Challenger easily fits all the family. Since i put allot of miles on the car I bought the scat pack to get the lifetime warranty with 392 motor. If you do not care about lifetime warranty then a SRT. If you get a challenger I highly recommend aftermarket springs makes handling night and day.

I had a 2SS 5th gen and now own a 2016 A8 Scat Pack. the Scat Pack seems to handle and ride every bit as good as my Camaro did. there is no question that it is bigger than the 5th and 6th gen Camaro. I have read that it's a drivers race between the 6th gen and Scat Pack in a drag race but in all honesty you're not going to be able to tell 99 % of the time while driving on the street. the Challenger has awesome throttle response and it's tough not to spin the tires until you adjust to this. I like the interior on my S.P and the features. haven't been inside a 6th gen Camaro yet and probably wont because I don't find the exterior appearance very pleasing. frankly they are both fantastic cars and have amazing performance, it's going to boil down to what suits you best and your personal preference. and just for fun I have included a video of me bonding with my Scat Pack just after hitting the 500 mile mark.

I own both cars---- love them both there equal in everyday straight line performance and you won't be disappointed with either ..BUUUUUUTTTTTTT IF your need is to haul kids or family the only choice is challenger .. I can't fit my 20 pound sheltie dog in the backseat of my Camaro😱. I have no kids so my fiancé has the Camaro I have the scatpack we drive them both they are excellent vehicle if I had to pick just one I would have to flip a coin

but regardless I currently drive a '98 Trans Am and am looking to possibly upgrade, the back seat isn't currently an issue but if/when we do have kids it could be, I do have a SUV for a backup/family vehicle. The main reason I would be considering a Challenger/Camaro over a Chevy SS or Charger is I don't fit as well in the 4-doors, I'm 6'3" and in a comfortable seating position my peripheral vision is limited by the B-Pillar of the 4 door cars. It's not too bad, but if it's a car I plan on keeping for 20+ years I want to be as comfortable as possible.
