Dont do it man. I was looking at a pick up truck a few months ago. It was an incredible deal. The phone number was bogus. He said he would have to call me from a pay phone. When I asked if I could meet the owner with cash. He never emailed me again. OMG ...some people.

Sorry but these have to be scams. Why would you part with a 2ss for that amount of money when you could easily sell it for more ANYWHERE ELSE!!

No way is a car going to be that devalued that much with 3500miles on it. NOT A CHANCE even if it was restored, and if its fit by the insurance company then its legal but it would still sell for more.

Even if it was restored from a major hit, you wouldnt but all the special stripes and wheels and paint job just to sell it.

SCAM!!

these are the sellers details
Private Seller

815 802 3333

VIN: 2G1FT1EW8A9100092 <------ LMFAO!!!!

or
225 810 3522

VIN: 2G1FK1EJ8A9110600

Can someone do a trace of the VINS and see if they are from this forum?

OK, so I've been emailing this guy over the last couple of days. Yes, I knew walking into it that it was a scam but I was curious to see where it would go.

The ad had the car listed in Marengo, IL but once the seller found out that I was close enough to drive he's suddenly in NJ.

After a couple of emails he said he would send an invoice through ebay (this car was found throug autotrader!) in order for me to pay through an escrow service. Once payment was made te car would be shipped to me. Once I had the car, funds would be transferred from the escrow to him. Sounds like a typical escrow scam where the seller wants you to use their escrow service which is, of course, fake.

So I get the invoice from ebay this morning. I have to say that the guy has done his work well. It looks very real... everything except the part he can't fake, which is the domain address that the email is coming from. However, he's tried to cover that as best he can as the email came from billing-ebay-escrow.com. Doing a quick Whois search shows me that the domain isn't registered to ebay but to a Enom, Inc (which just so happens to be a legit company as well... the guy is good) and has only been registered since Feb. 26 of this year.

Once I'm at home (can't do it on my phone here) I might check the html of the email to see if it reveals anyting else.

Maybe I'll suggest we use another (legit) escrow service and see what he says.

We should all listen to what our parents told us when they said that if something sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

LOL! No sooner did I post the above and he tried to call me! I didn't answer (and he left no message)... the colorful language I may have invoked wouldn't be "work appropriate"!

He got pretty pushy today... several emails and a couple of phone calls... until I emailed him back and asked to go through escrow.com. Haven't heard from him since.
