Can a 2014 ZL1 rear fascia be retrofitted with 2013 rear fascia?

A friend of mine wants to buy a 2014 ZL1, but hates the rear fascia. So we are thinking about ordering all of the rear fascia components for a 2013 and putting them on and then selling off the 2014 parts. From a quick visual inspection on Chevrolet's website, this looks doable. Is anyone familiar with GM's typical refreshes on cars? Will this work? Or is there typically more work involved? Or does it just depend on the model and we will have to wait and see when the new 2014's hit the market?

FYI.... getting a 2013 to make things simpler is not an option. There are other options on the 2014 that my friend wants to get and he wants to order the car exactly how he wants it.

Nope it cannot be one unless you plan to cut and replace the rear quarter panels as the rear tail lifts for the 14's wrap around into the rear 1/4's.

Until you have seen a 14 in person don't knock her it took me all of 5 minutes to love the 14 style over the 10-13 model in person it looks 1000% better than photos.

Actually I think it is possible. The wrap around lights are actually part of the bumper. The quarter panels look to be the same. You will need a new trunk lid though.

And new wiring harness as the tail lights have the reverse lights built into them.

Nope I have seen the 2014 in person the tail lights wrap around into the rear 1/4 2014 1/4's will need to be added or cut and fab the existing ones up.

Yes the new taillights wrap around to the quarter panel, but look at your own car and see that your rear fascia wraps around. All the 2014 taillights do is replace that extra piece of fascia that wraps around with taillights. The quarter panel should not have to be cut

I would say nothing structural/steel has changed back there.

The decklid is different too btw.

1) Recaro seats
2) Not really an option, but the color HUD
3) Not sure what paint colors options for 2014 as of yet
4) Noticed that there are LED taillights and halogen taillights and want to see if that's an option as well

From what I can visually tell from the outside, I think the rear quarters are the same unless they changed some features subsurface.

I'm personally not a fan of the 2014 rear fascia either. The LED lights are , but the halogens look better. I'm also not a fan of what they did to the profile of the license plate region/pocket.

Figured it would need a new wiring harness, but not worried about that so much.

I did not think that would be an issue just because of the added taillight, but now that I look closer, it looks like the lower profile where it interfaces with the taillights might have changed slightly.

Tail lights aren't an option, they're just new.

Possible yes. Cost effective no. Honestly speaking ordering a 13 and then adding the Color hud and recaros is much simpler than having to retrofit the 10-13 rear onto a 14. There isn't any other difference minus the color choices.

I'm not so sure. From the pics on Chevrolet's website, it looks like 2 different taillights.... LEDs shown on the SS and halogens on the Z28.

If i am not mistaken the LEDs are part of the RS package. So they aren't really an option just an extra with a package.

Edit: And isn't the Trunk lid a little different on the 14s because of the tail lights and spoiler/third brake light?

Correct you would need the new decklid and spoiler, tail lights, wiring harness (I stand corrected I had to go back and look at my photos the rear 1/4's are the same so no issue with those). I think you can do it all for around $2000-$2500.
