Question better fuel ecomony for my 2011 camaro?

let me just start off with saying i have a fully stocked v6 2LT 2011 camaro.... yes no longer an of the year car ='( oh well its still my baby which is all mine but her fuel consumption is getting way out of hand, and burning a big hole in my pocket. so what i want to ask the camaro community is what do you guys do to maximize its fuel economy. i normally go to shell because i hear their fuel is better for you engine. i buy 93 but had to back down to regular and with the summer coming up prices are going through the roof. is there anything i can do like using the shift pad or replaceing something? i heard changing the air filter can also help its fuel ecomony and if thats the case which one is better. but this is about as much as i can come up with. anything is appreciated. thanks

If u have the six cylinder, I believe premium is not required so you are fine with regular

Yeah, you can use regular 87. That'll save you a little bit each fillup. Other than that, I'd keep it in "D" mode and just go easy on the throttle. You can think about adding a cold air intake. That might help your MPGs a little, but be careful because you will also like hearing the new roar of your engine and whhhhhooooosh sound as air gets sucked in. This will lead to lower MPGs

I've noticed about a 2-3mpg gain with the Vararam intake when driving conservatively compared to stock conservative driving. Might help you out... otherwise, be light on the gas, keep your RPM low and stick with lower octane gas... 87 is all that's required but even a step down to 89 or 91 will save you a couple bucks. The biggest gains in MPG come from driving style man, sorry

CAI Inc advertises a 2-3mpg increase too. Seems like a cold air intake is the easiest way to improve gas consumption. Only applies to manuals, but I personally noticed a 2-3mpg increase just shifting at 2500-3000 instead of 3000-4000. Getting about 24-25mpg now.

What is your avg. MPG? How bad is it?

I don't buy the claims of better mileage with simply an air filter change. Wouldn't you think manufacturers would implement that if it were true? On a Camaro that is almost a 10% improvement which would really help their CAFE numbers.

The best advice is make sure your tires are always inflated properly. Drive nominal speeds and don't accelerate fast. I have a modded SS with a manual. If I keep my highway speed at 55-60 MPH my mileage is in the high 20's. Soon as I hit 65 or better it drops significantly. I think at 75 I get about 23. There's a 10 mile stretch of city driving I take to work with stop lights every 1/2 to 1 mile with top speeds of 45. If I shift at 1,500 RPM and accelerate slow and get into 6th gear I can keep a nice 20 MPG average. Kind of funny watching the Civics pass me by. The second I stomp on it it drops significantly. So driving style makes a big difference. This is one advantage of manual over automatic being able to shift sooner.

A side note, when my car was brand new and stock I could hit 30 MPG at 55 MPG per the computer. Part of my drive to work is 23 miles on highway. Of course that lasted about a month and then the modding began.

my 2012 v6 gets about 17-19 in the city and 30-32 on the highway. Only performance related mod is my CAI intake. Are you getting something close?

I'm getting the exact same MPG numbers.
If I stay driving around town it keeps going down though.

Stop and go traffics murders your mpg, especially on heavy cars like ours... But I like to commute with my camaro on the highway, which is why i love my v6

Hoping I can squeeze a couple more mpg on the highway after a tune.

So is it better to shift this car (I just got mine Monday this week) when my RPMs are in the mid 2k versus the 1k? I would shift my Honda lower for gas mileage. This car is a different beast to me for shift points on my 6M. ''

Here in MN 87 & 89 are same price, so I just filled up with 89 yesterday.

I shift around 2.3k in the city unless I want to drive "sporty" that day.
Shifting below 2k seems to be a bit too low on our engine, imo, but that may just be a personal thing. I feel like that would be too close to the point of undercutting or "lugging" the engine once you shift to a higher gear. Again, that may just be my personal perception.

Around town I shift around 2K. Seems to be doing well for me. I get about 19 with stop/go traffic

Pretty much sums up my experience. I can hold 29-30mpg cruising at 55mph...but that's isn't practical. So I usually cruise at 65mph at highway speeds and I'm averaging 25-27mpg.

Now, 95% of my driving is done in the city. So it's completely stop and go traffic. I average between 15-16mpg. For some reason, this tank is showing 18mpg right now. Mind you my average speed is 28-30mph. By the way, it really helps to shift around 2k. Keep it in high gear enough to keep the car moving but not low enough to bog the engine. Do slow acceleration and use engine braking as much as possible. Btw, I drive a V8 so you should be able to at least do that in your 6.
