160 thermostat

Would a 160 thermostat help with an almost stock setup, or should I wait until i install an upper or lower pulley for more boost? The only mod I've done so far is a Rotofab CAI.

I was wondering the same thing. Question has anyone put one in and not get CEL?

I asked a very reputable vendor on here about 160* thermostats and was told it wasn't a necessary thing so I'm holding off for now.

With the factory the tune, the 160 ts will reduce normal driving temps about 10 to 15 degrees as long as the car is moving. For performance driving it's not much benefit because the fans don't come on at the same time. Also, it does not cause any CELS.

Actually, it will throw a code if the ecu doesn't see coolant temps of at least 167 degrees after ~7 minutes of runtime. I had to let my car idle for 5 minutes before driving it in the mornings or it would throw a code (and disable the a/c). This was in Texas, in the summer.
I finally got tired of having to bring my laptop with me every morning just to clear the code so my a/c would work, so I put an 180 degree thermostat in.

general answer to a general question...every aftermarket supercharger kit comes with a 160 thermostat so I assume that it is ok for a factory installed supercharged motor to use a 160 t-stat. Can't hurt...meaning that running a 160 t-stat has no ill effects...might help...meaning if the t-stat opens sooner than the factory one, it may aid in keeping overall temps lower under normal operating conditions. Hope this helps.

It sounds like a tune is needed to run the 160 thermostat without throwing a code, so it might not be a good idea unless other mods are performed and the car is tuned at the same time. I'll pass on it for now.

That is what I was thinking.

Not a good idea for a stock set-up.

Umm... Not true. My edelbrock eforce did NOT come with a colder tstat. I was told not to do it by my tuner and by edelbrock. These engines are designed to optimally run at 180*. If you do it, then the ecu needs to be reprogrammed for the fans too.
