No. it Has nothing to do with the warranty, now if you use a paint not compatible with the plastic and it melts the cover, don't expect them to replace the cover under warranty...

I feel pretty confident about the paint being able to handle the temps. I popped my hood after some freeway driving yesterday, and a lot of sitting in traffic (there was a huge wreck on the way home). I put my hand right on the engine cover, and although it was warm, it wasn't even uncomfortable to the touch. I did use Rust-oleum paint that specifically mentioned plastic though.

Lookin' good. I went with the Injen too, but I got the short ram. Also have a black car with the engine cover painted silver.

What did ya paint the red chevy logo with?

Thanks. I actually used a piece of flame retardant felt that I got at a local hobby shop. Took a little trial and error to get the exact measurements. I added the Chevrolet lettering that I got on Ebay. It isnt professional but I actually like it better than most of the ones I have seen for sale. Or at least the ones that I can afford! I still plan on adding more chrome, like on the strut towers, relay box, etc.
Here's a better pic of the homemade underhood bowtie....taken before a lot of the other mods.

I havent read anything from anyone about the covers getting so hot that they peel or blister the paint. I know mine never even gets uncomfortable to the touch. I checked it several times before and after the paint. I think we would have heard by now if there were any problems. I painted mine several months back and it looks exactly the same as the day I painted it. Very happy with it. I did use paint designed for plastic.

I was talking about the chemicals in the paint melting the cover, not the heat underhood... Some paints are not compatible with plastics and the solvents will actually melt the plastic.. but in that case you would notice it within a few minutes of spraying the paint. I used The Krylon paint and have not has any issues at all since i put it on 6 months ago...

If you read through the thread, there's quite a few different variations to how people painted them.

Personally, I just wiped the cover down with a lint free rag and rubbing alcohol, taped the cover off with blue painters tape and applied several light coats of Krylon Fusion paint (meant for plastic).

I did it almost 2 months ago and still looks as good as new.
