Not to happy with my first drag strip day! :(

Went to Maple Grove tonight and ran a best pass of 12.85 at 111 with the TC on. Any other mode it just smoked the tires. Hit second on one pass with everything turned off and almost stuck it in the wall. Not to happy with how easy these tires break loose. Aired them down to 25 psi and still broke crazy loose.

The temp according to the car was between 88 and 91. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of timing being pulled out. My buddy ran a 12.90 with his lightly modified SS with stock tires. He spun way less than me. I was only leaving between 1500 and 2000 RPMs.

Looks like I need a set a drag radials. My car is a manual.

Practice, practice and more practice...lower air pressure a little more. Idk what the density altitude was but with air temps between 88-91 im sure that hurt as well. What was your 60'?

Stock tires need a lot of heat to get them sticky, but even then they are less than ideal.

You're right, you need a set of DR tires. You'll see your 60' and time decrease a bunch.

Definately get some drag radials.
And secondly, if you're going to use the stock tires, lower the psi to 17 in them, see if that doesn't help out.

Drop your 60' down to the 1.8x range and you'll see your time drop about .4-.5 minimum

I'll have to try the low pressure first. DR aren't the cheapest thing for how little I am going to race the car, and air is free.

Is it safe to run over 100mph at the end of the drag strip with just 17psi in the tires? I've never ran at a drag strip so thought I'd ask for some experienced info.

Make sure you get a proper burnout without water(stock tires)!

if you're going to drag it, why not invest in proper tires?
