Erick’s Mistress – 2010 Camaro # 8212 | 2LT | RS | CGM

I’ve loved Camaros all my life and my first was a 77’ Type LT. I got it used in 92’ and spent a lot of time and money on it over the years. In 2007 I finally sold the car due to not being able to keep up on maintenance and care.

It was actually purchased by a couple from Mexico who came up with a new Tahoe and flatbed. It was a pretty sad day for me to see my car being taken away. I had a lot of great memories of it with my family. I was in the Navy and drove it across the US a couple of times. I remember working on it with my son. With my daughter, I remember the time we "drove the gut" in Lansing. She was not happy when I reved the engine for the crowd. When she heard the crown cheer, she got excited and gave me the approving smile to rev it again.

In May of last year I got a call from a sales person at a local Chevy dealer. He knew my story and called to ask if I was still interested in the Camaro. I had looked at a 35th Anniversary edition model a while ago, but things just didn’t work out. I wasn’t really thinking about it but had heard about the comeback of the Camaro, so I decided to go into the dealership to talk. After my visit and doing some checking on-line, I was hooked. This time, things were all in alignment. I had just come into some extra cash and was in the process of selling a vehicle that was nothing but trouble.

It took a while to make my final decision. All the colors are beautiful. I tried a lot of colors and combinations. I wasn’t sure about the V6 until I saw the performance numbers—304 hp and 273 tq—Wow. The 77’ had 170 hp and 270 tq. And yeah the new V8 now has over 400 hp, but I wasn’t planning on racing. So the deal was sealed in mid April. In the mean time I sold my then current vehicle and my mom was nice enough to let me borrow her Impala. Another nice ride from Oshawa by the way.

I must have called my salesperson a hundred times to get a status on delivery.

So I waited until May 28th 2009 to take delivery. I was so excited—I felt like a little kid.

I also had a chance to meet Oppenheiser, who signed my car! I had never shown a car but I’ve been showing off ever since.

To this day I get excited every time I get into my car.

I also get excited seeing other new 5th generation Camaros on the road.

On the road to Camaro Fest 2010

GM did a great job in the design and styling. As for the build quality, all I can say is thank you! What a quality vehicle. I am so very proud of my car and I think All the folks that brought this vehicle from concept to delivery should also be proud for their part in this Icon of a car. I might have said “American Icon” but I know there are a lot of countries and talents involved.

ABL Dash Installed

With some help from Camaro5 member Skuttduck, I installed red ambient lighting in the dash:

My Roto-Fab Installation

08/12/2010 - So last Thursday when I went home for lunch and found that my order was delivered!

I went right to work on the installation. I don't have all my tools but with a little help from my friends, I got it all installed in under an hour.

I took some video and pictures. The video was from my phone so may not be very good.
Packaging:

The heat shield creates a large breathing space for the big mouth air filter.
Looking straight down from the top, you can see down to the concrete through gaps in the fender and behind the washer bottle.

I've got video on Facebook but can't figure out how to post it. If anyone can help, thanks.

Comments: Note: I'm not a mechanic but have worked on a few cars in my day.
The installation was just short of a breeze. The heat of the day had me frustrated. So the light Breeze did help.

One of holes on the heat shield was a little tight, but finally went in. The opening for the MAF seemed a bit rough and I was actually afraid of pushing too hard, and damaging the O-ring but that worked out too.
The PCV tube seemed about 1/4" short for my liking but no big deal. I got some extra stickers which was nice, but I got SS stickers vs the RS stickers. Everything else went in perfectly.

Once installed, I started the engine to make sure there were no rattles. Right off the bat, I noticed the difference in sound--Very Impressive. On my way back to the office I noticed the sound from the cabin was...Beefyer? Hard to describe, but definitely better. As for performance, It's hard to say officially, but the response seems less labored and the engine seems to be more responsive.

I was at the track in Lapeer MI last November and again yesterday.
I don't recall the air temp from November but yesterday it was around 80-85and humid.
My best times for both dates:
---- Date --- 60 ft -- 594 ft - 1/8 ET - 1/8 MPH - 1/4 ET - 1/4 MPH
11/07/2009 - 2.175 - 9.069 -- 9.644 - - 78.13 - - 14.918 -- 82.36 - Cooler Pre-Roto-Fab
08/14/2010 - 2.205 - 9.073 -- 9.678 - - 74.31 - - 14.843 -- 94.09 - Hot and Muggy Post-Roto-Fab
11/06/2010 - 2.009 - 8.560 -- 9.145 - - 76.98 - - 14.104 -- 97.95 - 37*, 30.35 inches/HG, 50% humidity - DA -900

My overall experience--Excellent
From my initial correspondence and information gathering to ordering, delivery, instructions, installation and performance. I'm very Satisfied.

Thanks Mike and the Roto-Fab team.

The Mighty 77

I had the same problem but different reasons. The 77 gen is the one least talked about. I had to give my 77 rs 350 up when I got married, this was my first car. And get this my father and I went looking for a camaro and just happend to pass Russell & Smith Ford in Houston,tx. He said oh look over there its a pretty black one on the lott, mind you my best friend had a brand new black Z28 with flames and it was the bomb in 77. So after looking and hagaling this pretty black with half red vynal top picked me. It only had 3000 miles on it,some crazy fool had traded it in,and the rest is history. I eventually rebuilt it form top to bottom when i got older. Mind you all of my best friends had camaro's back then and this was a special order but the guy just didnt want it. It was real racer. Fast cars and fast broads was how we lived. This gen never got the respect that it deserved. Back then we were like we are now the S!!! This camaro makes a 50 plus man remember the goods times of the past and the good times of the present. Please forgive the rant, but we are all lucky to have such a fine machine.
