Trading in '11 CGM 2SS/RS for '12 45th AE 2SS

Just talked to a salesman at my local GM Dealer and they have 1 allocation for a 2012 Camaro opening up next week! Everyone thinks I'm crazy for planning on trading in a car that I've only had for six months/4k miles, but with the 45th Anniversary Edition coming out (I'm obsessed with the Carbon Flash Metallic paint...) and the addition of a few upgrades (rear-view camera, upgraded suspension...) I feel that if I can get it for around what my payments are now, then why not? GM has also finally started using Carbon Synchros for the low gears on the TR6060, so I'll never have to worry about 2nd gear grinding again! As far as all my mods, I'll just have to do the work to switch back to the stock equipment (glad I kept all that junk!) because they actually prefer a trade-in to have as few aftermarket parts as possible. Of course that just means I won't have to start from scratch when I mod the 2012.

I was also surprised at how our cars hold their value after the dreaded new car depreciation. My MSRP was mid-$38k (paid mid-$36k after GM Military Discount and GM Owner Loyalty) and the KBB Trade-In Value is still over $35k! I still have to go over the prices of everything with the salesman, but he was confident that my payments should stay around the same...

So, what would you do?

If you can affoard it and that's what you want go for it! Better to make the trade now while your Camaro is still worth near what you payed for it than later on!

Get a firm trade in price for your car from the dealer. KBB is way off on values and I'm sure you dont want any suprises.

Well you know there is always something better coming out next year. I went through all this with my Mustangs. Started with an 05 GT, next was an 08 Bullitt, and then a 2010 Roush. I would not want to add up the money I lost doing all of that. Nice looking car though, love the wheels and I'd like to see the new color in person.

I say keep yours. You are already 6 months in on payments.

That's just my .02.

Hey if you can do it why not. Who cares what anyone else thinks, you make the payment no one else. If you work for what you have then why not treat yourself to what you want. Congrats on the pending upgrade !
