OK...there Shouldn't have been an SS Malibu and maxx....there shouldn't have been an all motor SS cobalt automatic 4 door sedan....I will, however, step in and say leave the Turbo HHR SS and Turbo Cobalt SS alone. Those were damn fast cars. For $600 you can buy and program a stage 1 kit from GMPP and bump your car 30HP and 60TQ with a factory tune....those cars are no slouch. Imagine 300HPand 320TQ in a 2975lb Cobalt...I had one

and holy dead thread batman!

Instead of worrying about a badge, how about producing parts that don't break on SS models? It's disgusting that you can't use the features on the car from the factory in fear of destroying the car, i.e., launch control.

2 more cents...

Reading this thread got me thinking ...

Does that mean that the "base" V8 model won't be the SS anymore? (Camaro now, not talking lawnmowers, etc).

It ain't for everyone, but I loved driving it...it had a lot of pep...especially once I had the GM Turbo Upgrade installed...that kicked the HP up to 290, from 260...I was doing 0-60 in under 6 seconds. The engine (LNF turbo) is a pretty dynamic lil' 4-banger...2.0L turbocharged, direct injection, 290 HP. Where do you ever see a 145 HP-to-1 L ratio? People who didn't know much about HHR SSes were shocked when I told them it was only a 4-cyl in there after giving them a ride.

Here is mine...I will miss it, but it served me well...was my favorite of all of the cars I've owned to date:

So do they plan on ending the ZL1, changing it to an SS, or making the SS faster than the ZL1. Oh, and I would have to say that the supercharged version of the cobolt does deserve to wear the bage. That was a very impressive car. They screwed up when they kept for the four door models.

I really liked my Trailblazer SS. That thing was pretty quick for an SUV. I almost wish they'd bring it back to compete with the Jeep SRT-8 again.

I'm ok with keeping Malibu in the mix. I'm old enough to remember when a Chevelle and a Malibu were the same car and I still have some good Malibu SS memories.

They should follow the Germans and have a more unified naming system, link half of the model name to the car type, link the other half to the engine trim

BMW always start with car model number then engine number
Model number Z - 3 - 5 - 6 - 7 - M
i4 - ?28
i/v6 - ?35
V8 - ?45
V12 - ?50
tuned V8/V12 - M?

Benz also starts with car trim letter then follow with engine number
Model trims SL - C - E - S - CL - ML (also sub models for the L stuff, -LK, -LS)
i4 - ?300
i/v6 - ?350
V8 - ?550
V12 - ?600
tuned V8/V12 - ?AMG

AUDI is the one with a lot of exceptions, "A" trim can have any engine type
Model trim 4 - 6 - 7 - 8
i4/6/8 - A?
i/v6 - S?
V8 - RS?
V12 - W12
tuned V8/V12 - RS?

SS should be on par with M/AMG/RS badges, they should be allowed on small cars but only the actual sports models, like STI/EVO.
The current GM system is like Chrysler, adding R/T to EVERYTHING...... Avenger R/T /facepalm that works in short term but ruins the badge in the long run

They should keep the names for the car models, but unify the engine badges
i4 - LS
V6 - LT
V8 - SS
Super charged 4/6/8 - Z
The whole LT/RS/SS system is too complicated right now, just keep packages out of the badges, simply call the RS "sports package", call the 2 "luxury package"

I would agree with one exception to a majority of the posts. I have an Impala "SS" and at the time of its built it is well deserved. V8 power, better suspension etc...only downside its a FWD (which sucks for torque steer). I do agree that its use should be limited ( I about had a cow when I saw the "SS" badge on a cobalt..... BTW 2008 impala has almost 100k on her and still going strong, little over 14 sec qtr mile with no Mods...not bad for a FWD 4 door :-)
