If I did that, I'd never be able to park in the garage because when I would open the door it would hit the ceiling.

I say, it's your car and your money, do what u want to do! I want to do them myself, but not because of looks but for ease of getting in and out of the car. I have a bad back and when the parking is tight the long doors make it hard to get in and out. It feels like I have to get out by stepping backwards instead of just stepping straight out.
