USB tip needed for music streaming
I have a small 16 gig USB that I leave plugged in all the time. I loaded the music by using windows media player. I don't like the way it functions. Does anyone have tips or suggestions on loading music onto the USB so that it's easy to find artists or songs?

I was using my iPhone for a while, but I hate that the cord doesn't come out of the armrest easily. It puts pressure on the armrest if you lean on it too much, and I don't want to break any hinges. That's why I got the USB.

I had this problem when I put my whole library on my drive. It seemed like I could never hear the song I wanted. My solution was to pare it back to 100 or so songs, then rotate songs out as I get new ones or get tired of the old ones. 100ish gives me room for decent variety and gives me 5-6 hours of listen time, but still allows me to quickly find what I'm looking for track by track.
You can always search via the radio, but who wants to do that while doing 70?

I use a small flash drive as well. When I put music on it, I just open the drive in "my computer", then just drag what I want into it. No program needed. Depending on how my music is labeled and organized on my computer is how it gets put onto the drive. I try to keep things labeled correctly on my computer specifically for that reason. Like if you've ripped a CD onto your computer and all the tracks names are "Track 01, 02, 03, etc", it'll be a headache to find what you want in your car. If you need to edit some file names, right-click the file and either rename it or check its properties to see if there's some conflict. So while my USB is playing, with everything named correctly, I can search artists, songs, albums, genre, etc. If there's a bunch of new music that I've added that I only want to hear, I make a new folder in the flash drive called "New". Then, in the car, I can just go to Menu>Search>Folders>New and only play those songs.
I do however wish the system would stay where I left it when I turn it off and back on again. Like if I had it on random, it stays on random. Or if I were playing a particular folder, it stays on that folder. It just goes back to playing everything in alphabetical order when I get back on the car. |

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I was going to have to go the route of just loading it directly. My music is organized, so no worries there. Just pull the folders in by artist/album/song...then hopefully it works fine.

Related but kind of different question... I have and use my droid to stream loaded music and also pandora... I have noticed that when I am using bluetooth the sound quality is not as wide...meaning the lows and the very high hodges just aren't there...up have to use a thumb drive in order to get better sound quality. Is this just me or an inherent limitation when tasting bluetooth?

OP, this may be obvious, but did you try the search by song or artist functionality on the radio itself? I can find all mine by artist, by album or by song and it works fine.

Yeah. I did. It didn't function the way I wanted so I'm going to load it manually using Explorer and not Media Player.

Same goes for BT streaming. I have to reconnect my android phone every time I get in the car... then start whatever stream I want it to play. Frustrating.... |
