Turn this upside down?

Upper Strut Retainer, was wondering if it would hurt anything to turn it upside down. Since lowering my car with bmr 1'drop spring, I now have a gap where the upper strut retainer bolts down. I know this is normal.

I've also noticed that there it movement here. I have cleaned the area where it should be resting against the car and I notice I get black marks there again.

I turned mine upside down today. I must say, it wont move anymore. Just wanted to make sure that I'm not making a mistake by turning it upside down. I've look all over the net and I have yet to see someone do this. Any reason why? To me it just makes sense to do so. Im hoping this fixes the loud bang I get when going over bumps.

You might be putting more stress on the top on the strut bolt. The nut is probably on the hollow part where the torx would go in.

Trust me I know from experience it breaks if on that part only.

The upper collar is only there to retain the strut in the car if raised in a manner that allows the suspension to hang freely. It is not designed to take ANY road-going stresses and will most likely cause several things to happen:
1. cause binding when turning and possibly not allow the steering to return to center
2. as the previous reply stated: may break the upper threaded portion of the strut
3. rub the paint off the strut tower where it contacts now

You do not want to turn the retaining plate upside down. It is designed to tilt and move when you turn your steering wheel. Installing it upside down may cause it to bind and cause damage. It is OK to have a gap there when it's installed correctly.

YEs, what they said! That dish up there is supposed to move. Check it out on an unmodified car by having the owner turn the wheel from side to side while you watch. You risk breaking the hollow torx bit opening up on top by limiting the movement. There are some nice Billet covers if you are worried about the looks.

Yikes. I would strongly suggest flipping that back around. As the OP said in the first post there is nothing wrong with that gap, and you're now loading pieces that weren't necessarily designed to take loads.

Flip it around and enjoy the car!

Just flip it back around and shut your hood, then you won't see it anymore! J/j!
